ATTEST: FY SEC(~ETARY kPPROVED AS TO FORM: DA~,RIIq M. COKER CITY ATTORNEY ADOPTED this the 24th TOM REID MAYOR GOVERNMENTAL SERVICE AGENCY, INC. December 6, 1999 The Honorable Tom Reid, Mayor City of Pearland 3519 Liberty Drive Pearland, Texas 77581-5416 Dear Mayor Piper: The Brazoria County Commissioners' Court currently has an 18-member advisory board for its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME programs. Some of the general duties of the advisory board include: (1) Making recommendations regarding the application procedures for the Public Service Fund requests. (2) Reviewing funding proposals from housing and social service organizations for public service programs. Submit funding recommendations to the Commissioners' Court. (3) Reviewing annual funding allocations for the CDBG and HOME Program application. (4) Reviewing application procedures and guidelines for the HOME Programs. (5) Providing general input 0n other CDBG and HOME Program issues as may be requested by the Brazoria County Conimissioners~ Court and Community Development staff. · (6) To report to and inform, their represented city about the events and status of the CDBG and HOME Programs. The composition of the board consists mostly of mayors, council members and city managers from the 17 cities that currently are participating in the county program plus one county representative. We have provided for one representative from each city to be represented on the board~ At the next Commissioners' Court meeting I will be recommending that the board be increased to accommodate a representative from your city. If this is approved, then we will need to have your city council appoint a representative to serve on the board. I would also like to do this at one of the meetings in January of the Commissioners' Court. To be eligible to serve on the board, your representative must be the mayor, a council member or the city manager. Upon receipt of your city's desired representative, I will then submit his or her name to the Commissioners' Court for approval. The board generally meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month. I would recommend that you make sure your representative is able to attend these meetings so that your city can be represented.
