1999-05-04 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES104 MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON MAY 4, 1999, AT 7:00 P.M., IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY HALL, 3519 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND, TEXAS. The meeting was called to order with the following present: Mayor Mayor Pro -Tem Councilmember Councilmember Councilmember Councilmember City Manager City Attorney City Secretary Tom Reid Larry Wilkins Helen Beckman Richard Tetens William Berger Klaus Seeger Glen Erwin Darrin Coker Young Lorfing Others in attendance: Grants Director Janet Berry; Parks & Recreation Director Ed Hersh; Director of Administrative Services Mary Hickling; Assistant City Attorney Nghiem Doan; Fire Marshal Larry Steed; Chief Building Official Gene Tumlinson; PEDC/Administrative Asstistant Perla Lehman; Administrative Clerk Melissa Harris. PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: COUNCIL ACTION - RESOLUTION NO. 99-42 - A RESOLUTION AND ORDER OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE CITY GENERAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, ON MAY 1, 1999. Councilmember Berger made the motion, seconded by CouncilmemberTetens, to approve Resolution No. R99-42. Councilmember Berger read the results of the election into the record. NAME OF CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR NUMBER OF VOTES RECEIVED Tom Reid 1,912 100.00 Page 1 of 3 - 5/4/1999 x05 FOR MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL, POSITION NUMBER THREE (3) NAME OF CANDIDATE NUMBER OF VOTES RECEIVED PERCENTAGE Larry Wilkins 1,349 58.02 Betty D. Callaway 914 39.31 Thomas Kidd 62 2.67 COUNCIL ACTION - ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATE OF ELECTION TO NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS. Mayor Reid issued Larry Wilkins and his Certificate of Election. COUNCIL ACTION - ADMINISTRATION OF OATH OF OFFICE TO NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS. Brazoria County Judge, John Willy, administered the Oath of Office to Tom Reid for Mayor and to Larry Wilkins for Council Position Number 3. COUNCIL ACTION - ELECTION OF MAYOR PRO -TEM. Mayor Pro -Tem Wilkins made the motion, seconded by Councilmember Tetens, to nominate Councilmember Bill Berger to serve as Mayor Pro -Tem. Voting "Aye" Councilmembers Beckman, Tetens, Wilkins, and Seeger. Voting "No" None. Voting "Abstain" Councilmember Berger. Motion Passed 4 to 0, with 1 abstention.
