1993-09-27 CITY COUNCIL AND PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION JOINT PUBLIC HEARING MEETING MINUTESMINUTES OF A JOINT PUBLIC HEARING OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON SEPTEMBER 27, 1993, AT 7:00 P. M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY HALL, 3519 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND, TEXAS The Hearing was called to order with the following present: Mayor C. V. Coppinger Mayor Pro Tem/Councilmember Joy Colson Councilmember D. A. Miller r Councilmember Benny Frank Councilmember Randy Weber Councilmember David Smith Planning & Zoning Commission Vice Chairman Emil Beltz Commissioner Patsy Eilers Commissioner Rob Larsen Commissioner Jack Womack City Manager Paul Grohman I Interim City Attorney Dick Gregg City Secretary Pat Jones Absent from the hearing: Commissioners Tetens, Lopez, and Beckman. NUMBER OF SIGNATURES ON ATTENDANCE ROSTER: 3 PURPOSE OF THE HEARING: SPECIFIC USE NO. 28, REQUEST OF ROBERT ORAVETZ, OWNER, FOR A SPECIFIC USE PERMIT IN A GENERAL BUSINESS DISTRICT TO ALLOW A SINGLE FAMILY DWELLING ON THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBED PROPERTY, TO -WIT: BLOCK 6, LOTS 1, 2, & 3 OF THE PEARLAND TOWNSITE (2201 N. HOUSTON AVENUE) Vice Chairman Emil Beltz of the Planning and Zoning Commission introduced his fellow Commissioners and it was announced the Commission would meet after the hearing to consider this request. SPEAKING FOR THE PROPOSED REQUEST: 1. Alice Fitch, 2201 N. Houston. Ms. Fitch stated she was in favor of using the property as a residence and could think of no valid reason why it should not be so used. 2. S. A. Lane, 2210 N. Houston. Mr. Lane spoke in favor of granting the request, stating the house was a credit to the neighborhood. 3. Robert Oravetz, 2201 N. Houston. Mr. Oravetz stated he was in favor of the request and would like to see it granted. 4. C. J. Van Eman, Rt. 3, Box L 186, Franklin, Texas. A letter was received in the City Secretary's office on September 17, 1993, from this individual stating he owns the property at 2202 N. Houston and has no objection to this request. SPEAKING AGAINST THE PROPOSED REQUEST: 1. Myrtlee Massey Meade, 2430 S. Washington. Ms. Meade stated she objected to the request being granted until the issue concerning the Myrtle Mott McCormack Estate has been settled. Ms. Meade informed that she is the executor of the estate and was not allowed by the City to rent the property and was told the property would not be used for a residence again. However, Ms. Meade continued, the City issued permits to Mr. Oravetz to remodel the structure as a residence and he has lived there for over a year. Ms. Meade stated the McCormack Estate should be paid according to the bill she presented January 15 before this request is granted. QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD: There were no questions from Council or the Planning and Zoning Commission. ADJOURNMENT The hearing adjourned at 7:13 P. M.
