R98-12 01-26-98RESOLUTION NO. R98-12 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO APPLY FOR AND EXECUTE ALL AGREEMENTS RELATED TO THE 1998 TOBACCO COMPLIANCE GRANT. WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature recently adopted Senate Bill 55 enacting new regulations concerning the sale, distribution, and use of tobacco products, including penalties for sale and use of tobacco products by minors; and WHEREAS, the Comptroller of Public Accounts is offering grants to defray some of the enforcement costs associated with the legislation; and WHEREAS, available funds are to be used for compliance related activities such as "sting" operations, compliance inspections, compliance education programs, and monthly reporting of compliance activities; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section 1. That the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to submit an application to the 1998 Tobacco Compliance Grant Comptroller of Public Accounts for the regarding Senate Bill 55,. and execute all necessary agreements as required under the grant guidelines.
