1996-10-07 CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC HEARING MEETING MINUTES - 5:30PM121 MINUTES OF A PUBLIC HEARING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON OCTOBER 7, 1996, AT 5:30 P. M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY HALL, 3519 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND, TEXAS. The hearing was called to order with the following present: Mayor Councilmember/Mayor Pro Tem Councilmember Councilmember City Attorney City Secretary Tom Reid Jerry Richardson Kevin Cole Helen Beckman Amy McCullough Yolanda Benitez Others in attendance: Assistant City Managers Richard Burdine and Glen Erwin, Police Chief Mike Hogg, and City Engineer John Hargrove. Absent from hearing: Councilmembers Richard Tetens and Larry Wilkins. PURPOSE OF THE HEARING: To consider the proposed annexation of 58.2 acres of land located in the H.T.&B. RR Survey, Section 7, Abstract No. 219, Brazoria County, Texas. NUMBER SIGNING ATTENDANCE ROSTER: 1 STAFF REVIEW OF PROPOSED SERVICE PLAN Assistant City Manager Richard Burdine reviewed a map outlining the area involved in the proposed annexation. He stated that the City already has water on O'Day Road and we also have sewer, but it is south of Hickory Slough. Mr. Burdine also stated that this area is currently in the City's ambulance area, and the residents are currently receiving a number of the city's benefits without cost to them. PERSONS WISHING TO GIVE INPUT None. 122 QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD: The Mayor and Council inquired about the reason for not extending the proposed annexation area to the 100 foot strip at this time. Mr. Burdine explained that the City was basically concentrating on getting the portion that would include the Pine Oaks Subdivision. He noted that the city can go back at a later date and annex the remaining portion. After additional questions regarding adding this area now, Mr. Burdine explained that we would have to go through the entire process if the Council wished to increase the size of the proposed annexation area. Councilmember Cole inquired about the proximity of Lawhon Elementary school to the proposed annexation area. Councilmember Cole also inquired about the location of the proposed water treatment plant. Assistant City Manager Burdine stated that it is being built on Garden Road at Hickory Slough and it is under construction at this time. ADJOURNMENT The hearing adjourned at 5:44 P. M.
