It will also be available on the Internet on our website, W\\~\v. texns!lometo'\llhistoi"Y .com. Preservation oflocal history is something we all have a duty to cherish, and with help from the community, we are dedicated to making this dream a reality. Now is the time to begin work on your area history show, as interviews with those who lived it are available now, but may not be much longer. As President of the Pearland Historical Society, I am always very interested in any project which I feel would help preserve the heritage and history of "old Pearland." Not only do I envision your project as helping to preserve our history, it is my belief it will also be very helpful as a tool to educate our young people in school about our history and will also be a helpful tool for promoting Pearland in general. Our Historical Society has received excellent co-operation from both the Pearl and School District and the City of Pearland for our historical preservation projects. I feel your project would be an excellent addition for our entire community. Our Historical Society has envisioned a project such as yours but never had the talents nor the resources to proceed with one. I certainly hope you can obtain a sufficient number of sponsors to go forward on this worthy project for the people of Pearl and. Good luck and feel free to call on me for any further assistance. Every community deserves, rather needs, to have its history documented and you have done an excellent job with the City of Pasadena, Texas. History is the record of who we are and how we got here. As the pace oflife speeds up and we move from place to place, we lose our sense of belonging. New residents to a community have no connection to the town and thus, a lack of responsibility for what it is and what it will be. By introducing them to the history of the town, the events, the people and the process by which it has became the place they now call home, you create a feeling of familiarity that is conducive to responsible and community active citizens. Most communities have a museum and a library. Unfortunately, these tend to be passive activities. As a local historian I can appreciate that your documentary on the community connects the dots and makes the history come alive. Many communities have a public channel TV station that can provide this important program direct to the public. Civic and community clubs are always looking for speakers and the documentary is a natural program that will share the history of the town. Heritage tourist can achieve a far better understanding of the community's history. Students in the primary and secondary school system have study units on local history and your documentary makes that an easy program to present Thank you for a job will done. The content and presentation is on par with any national PBS program. Good luck in future ventures. ..----- ~_. \ \ ) ./ f ---,. -, .-.-.....- .....,.~incerely, . . I am sure this project will greatly educate students and residents about our heritage. It will also be great for visitors to our city to see all that Pasadena has to offer and how it came to be. The show will be an effective tool in increasing knowledge about Pasadena.
