A special meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to
order at 8;00 P. -M., October 19, 1964, at the City Hall with.
-the following members and guests present:
Mayor John G. Kegley, Aldermen Victor A. Nolen, Steven A.
Shukanes, Thomas P. Alexander, Gene E. Sanders, City Secretary
W. A. McClellan. and City Engineer William C. Walsh.
Mayor Kegley explained that the meeting was called to accept
the tax roll from the Equilization Board and any other business
that might 4be properly brought before the Council.
City Engineer Walsh presented plans and specifications for the
lift station for Sherwood Subdivision and requested the Council
to put them out for bids as soon as possible.
After due discussion Mayor Kegley appointed Nolen and_ -Alexander%.
as a committee to meet with Mr. St. John of the State Highway_
Departmetht to work out details of crossing Highway -5-18.
A motion was made by Shukanes and seconded- by Nolen -that Earl -
Nugent be paid two weeks severance pay and one weeks-vacatlpin
pay. All Aldermen voted "aye" with no "noes". Mot on ;c,arrie.d
Mayor Kegley requested Street and Bridge Committee to see
about shelling Woody Road for a distance of two blocks from
F. M. 518 North.
Council meeting temporarily adjourned for a joint meeting
with the Equalization Board members, Vice -President Nonny
Walker, Member Homer C. Wolf and Alternate Member Frank E.
Lee, Jr.
The Equalization Board members formally approved the minutes
of their previous meeting and presented the tax roll for
1964 in proper form to the Council.
Motion made by Nolen and seconded by Shukanes that Council
accept and approve the certification of tax assessments as
presented'by the Tax Assessor -Collector and Equ4�ization Board
as follows:
WE, the duly appointed members of the City of Pearland Board of
Equalization, have examined the tax roll for 1964, as submitted
by.the Tax Assessor -Collector for the City, for equalization
and do hereby approve same as a fair and' -properly equalized
valuation of property. Total assessed valuation $10,195, 758,,00
Tax rate of $0.75 per $100.00 of assessed valuation amounts to
a tax levy of $76,488.39. All Aldermen voted "aye" with
no "noes." Motion carried.
Motion made by Nolen and seconded by Shukanes that a letter
of appreciation be sent to the Equalization Board members. All
Aldermen voted "aye" with no "noes." Motion carried.
Motion made by Shukanes and seconded by Nolen that all money
due members of the Equalization Board be paid. All Aldermen
voted "aye" with no "noes." Motion carried.
Motion made by Nolen and seconded by Alexander that Equalization
Board meetings be adjourned for the 1964 tax year. All
Aldermen voted "aye" with no "noes." Motion carried.
Motion made by Shukanes and seconded by Nolen that Ordinance
No. 98 which reads as follows, be approved and adopted:
" AN ORDINANCE LEVYING TAXES FOR THE USE AND SUPPORT OF THE
MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, AND
PROVIDING FOR THE INTEREST AND SINKING FUND FOR THE YEAR 1961,
AND APPORTIONING EACH LEVY FOR THE SPECIFIC PURPOSE. "
All Aldermen voted "aye" with no "noes." Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 10:00 P. M.
