A, special meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order
at 7:00 P. M., August 24, 1964, by Mayor Pro Tem John Kegley in
the City Hall with the following City Officials and Guests in
attendance.,
Mayor Pro -Tem John Kegley, Aldermen Aldxander, Victor A. Nolen,
Gene E. Sanders and StevenA. Shukanes.
Guests: H. W. Raney, Lloyd J, Yost, Orlen O'Day, Vernon W.
Halik, Hamilton Haskins, James Rau, M. D., William C. Walsh and
-_ Glen Spencer.

Mayor Kegley explained that;the purpose of the joint meeting with
�CountyrRepresentative, Fire Department and Drainage District
Board members as well as City Officials was to plan a program
for spraying to combat the mosquitos Qarrying the encephalitis
virus.
Mr. Yost elaborated upon the spraying and protective work now
being cnnducted in the Pearland area. Dr. Rau reported one
cam of the encephalitis disease has been reported in Brazoria
County at Oyster-OCreek. He advised that our citizens should
police their property to dispose of all stagnant water and
spray secluded spots. All County Doctors have been alerted
as to-symptons of the disease and procedure for reporting the
cases,. Mr. Yost stated that Mr. McNeil, the County Representative
felt that the spray program will have to continue until frost
kills the mosquitos.
Mr. Haskins was requested to place County mowingmachineson
Pearland road and ditches to cut the weeds. This should assist
in retarding mosquito breeding.
Mr. Raney stated that the Fire Department has some equipment
thaC' could be placed in service to spray ditches.
