1964-07-23 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES62 The regular meeting of the City of Pearland City Council was held on Thursday July 23, 1964, at the City Hall, 14429 Texas Avenue, with the following City Officials and guest present. Mayor E. T. Gibbons, Aldermen Steve A. Shukanes, Jr., John G. Kegley, Gene E. Sanders and Victor A. Nolen. Guests: Dave W. Corbett, Gene P. Remy, P. L. Marquess, Elmo Brundrett, William C. Walsh, Floyd Anderson, Carlton McComb, David L. Smith, Frank Barringer and Orlen OtDay. The Mayor introduced Mr. Remy to the Council who discussed the following problems of the Regency Park Civic Club: (1) Water for the public park. (2) A walk -way to the school. (3) Cleaning the ditch out on the north side of the subdivision. After due discussion the Council agreed to proceed immediately with resolving these problems. The minutes of the regular meeting of July 16, 1964, were read and approved. Alderman Shukanes made a motion, seconded by Nolen, that the following outstanding bills be paid. Mr. Marquess stressed that notices should be sent out to the tax payers at least 10 days prior to the equalization board hearing. He also stated the immediate need for officially appointing an Equal- ization Board. A motion was made by Nolen,''seconded by Sanders, that the Mayor be authorized to appoint a Board of Equalization consisting of three men. All Aldermen voted "aye" no 'noes." Motion carried. The Street Sign and Street Light Committee reported that the survey of street light needs has been completed and a motion was made by Nolen, seconded by Shukanes that lights be installed immediately at the following locations: 1. Big light at intersection of 518 and entrance of Sherwood Addition. 2. Small light at Dixie Farm Road & McGinnis Drive. 3. Small light at West Circle Drive and Smith Circle Drive. 4: Big light at Walnut and Old Algin Roa&r. 5. Small light North end of Gallo-10stori Avenue== in Turner Addition. _F 6 6. Small light. at Johnston and Walnut. 7. Small light at McClain Load and Plte'Road.' 8. Small light at McClain Road and Magnolia Road. 9. Small light at McClain Road and City Limits on McClain Road. e o 10. Small light at West Ridge and Robinson Drive. 11. Small light Bishopton Drive and Glostonbury Drive. 12. Small light, at Mykawa Road and Texas Gulf Tank. Road. Mr. Wilcox presented his plans for proceeding with development of Friendswood Village private housing addition. Aftex due discussion a motion was made by Nolen, seconded by Kegley, that the conditions and proposals embodied in Mr. Allen Fieldts letter of July 23, 1964,_.be tentatively approved with the exception of Proposal No. 1, No. 2, No. -5A and 5B which will require further study by the City Attorney and City Engineer. All Aldermen voted 'aye" no 'noes." o ` Motion carried: A motion was made by Sanders, seconded by Kegley, as follows: 1. That a"water tap be installed at the Regency Park Play Ground. 2. That a walk giving children access to the School from Regency Park be installed, ` 3. Request Drainage District clean ditch behind Regencyy Park. ` All Aldermen voted "aye" no "noes." Motion carried. A motion was made by Kegley, seconded by Shukanes, that the Mayor and City Secretary be authorized to sign the agreement between Walsh & McLaren and Wyatt C. Hedrick terminating the interest of Wyatt C. Hedrick in the old water district. All Aldermen voted "aye's no "noes .' Motion carried. Mr. Elmo Brundrett with Johns -Manville discussed the use of Transite pipe for sewage piping.. It was explained that competative bids could be obtained from both transite and concrete pipe by doing some: '.,:" additional engineering. Johns - Manville would be agreeable to pay for part of the additional - engineering. A motion was made by Sanders, seconded by Shukanes, that Walsh and McClaren be authorized to proceed with the design of the sewer system to provide for installation of transite sewer= pipe trunking f9r plant site No. 3.
