1964-07-09 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES56 -'~The regular meeting of the City of Pearland City Council was held on Thursday Night, July 9, 1964, at the City Hall, 14429 Texas Avenue, with the following City Officials and guests. Mayor E. T. Gibbons, Aldermen Victor A. Nolen, Thomas P. -Alexander) John G. Kegley,.Gene E. Sanders, Steven A. Shukanes ,and Secretary -W. A. McClellan. a Guests: Lee Plyler, Hal W. Wilcox, Frank Barringer, John Rainey, William C. Walsh, David L. Smith, Jr., Ed Rivers, E. E. Bratton and Orlen O'Day. ' Motion made by Kegley and seconded by Alexander that minutes of the regular meeting held om June 25, a special meeting held on June 29,<the regular meeting.held on July 2, and the special meeting held on July 7, 1964, be approved with corrections. Aldermen Kegley, Alexander and Nolen vpted "aye" no "noes.' Sanders and Shukanes absent. Motion carried. Motion made by Alexander and seconded by Kegley that the follow- ing invoices and salaries be approved for payment. Aldermen Kegley, Alexander and Nolen voted "aye". Sanders and Shukanes not present, no "noes." Motion carried. . Motion made by Alexander and seconded by Kegley that the check from Texaco, Inc. for seismic hole shots, on the garbscge dump land be accepted subject to an on site approval by Mayor- Gibbons ayorGibbons and Alderman Kegley. Aldermen Kegley, Alexander --and Nolen voted "aye". Sanders and Shukanes not present no "noes".___,- Motion carried. Mr. Hal W. Wilcox presented a plat for a private subdivision to contain rental units only to be known as Friendwood Village that was accepted for review by the Subdivision Committee on this date July 9, 1964. Lee Plyler presented the following petition to the Council: "July 6, 1964 TO THE CITY COUNCIL OF PEARLAND, TEXAS We, the under -signed, do hereby request de -ann- exation from the City of Pearland. r -- Since we are located in an isolated place, on Dixie Farm Road between FM 518 and Highway 35, and due to -� the fact that there are only ten families on this road, we rea ize that the City cannot afford to give us water and sewage, etc.... Therefore, at this time, we ask to be de -annexed until there can be something done to give us the conveniences. We feel that taxation without any of the benefits due us is unfair and unconstitutional. We request that action be taken on this petition at once........ Motion made by Alexander and seconded by Nolen that the above petitiion be tabled until the Council could get a map of -the area and canvassthe residents, along with an engineering study. All Aldermen voted "aye" no "noes' Metien carried. Motion made by Nolen and seconded by Alexander that a desk 58 be purchased from the Steck Company for the sum of $220.00 to be -same styling as previously purchased.
