1964-04-16 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES'--The regular meeting for the City of Pearland City Council was
held on Thursday Night,.April 16, 19641 at the City hall#
14429 Texas Avenue, with the following City.Offici.als and guests
present.

Mayor E. T. Gibbons, Councilman Elect Steven A.°Shukanes, Council-
men Gene E. Sanders, Victor A. Nolen and Thomas P. Alexander,
Councilman John G. Kegley absent.
Guests: William C. Walsh, City Engineer, W. A. McClellan, Office
Tf Manager; Jack Harrison, City Attorney, Frank Barringer, Paul
Ferguson, J. C. Young, David L.°Smits -Jr., Buck Hausman, Lloyd

Meeting called to order at 7:30 P. X, by'Mayor Gibbons who
immediately requested Jack Harrison to administer the Oath of
Office to him along with Councilmeh Elect -Gone E. Sanders and
Steven A. Shukanes.
Minutes of special meeting held on April 7, 1964,`and the regular
meeting held on April.90 1964, were read and approved.
Mayor Gibbons announced that .negotiations had Ueen finalized on
the Garbage Dump Site and in accordance with previous approval
of the Council, money had been borrowed fmra the Pearland State
Bank in the amount of $14,750.00 t0 pay for same.
A gross receipts check ins. -the amount of $1,347.15 was acknowledged
from the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company which represented
2% on $67,357.37s for the period from January 1, 1963,te December
31, 1963.
Motion made by Alexander and seconded by Nolen that the fallowing
r outstanding invoices for the City,of Pearland Water & Sewer
Department and th.e City of Pearland Operating Apo:ounts be
approved and paid. All members present voted aye, no noes.

Motion made by Mayor Gibbons and seconded by Nolen that Steven
A. Shukanes be branded and authorized to'sign checks and be
appointed Treasurer to replace David L. Smith, Jr. Members,
Nolen, Sanders and Alexander voted aye, Shukanes abstained.
Motion carried.
Motion made by Nolen and seconded by Alexander that a private
sewer line be put':,n for the Pearland Hardware Company under the
usual terms and conditions. All members voted aye, no noes.

Motion made by Sanders and seconded by Nolen that the plat for
Sleepy Hollow subdivision be 'referred tb an Independent
Registered Civil Engineer in Brazoria Counter for checking.
Members, Nolen, Alexander and Sanders voted aye, Shukanes abstained.
Motion carried.
M®tion made by Alexander and secbnded by Shukanes that Mayor
Gibbons inform the Pearland Ihdependent School District to
proceed with closing of Jasmine Street between Grand Boulevard
and Park Avenue' with the erection of proper' barricades.
All members voted aye; no noes.
Motion carried.
J Motion made by Nolen and seconded by Alexander that Council
in the presence of Orlen O'Day, an interested party in the
Pearland Investment Company, go on record, based on recommendation
of City Attorney, that the City would be responsible to the Bay
Concrete Products Company for the original nontract in the
amount of $5056.00 only between them and the former Brazoria
County Water 0-ontro`1and Improvement District No. 3 for the sewer
line to 'serve.their property. All members voted aye, no noes.
Motion carried.
David L. Smith, Jr., filed a preliminary water system plat for
Sherwood addition which was formerly signed by 'the'City Secretary
as of this date.
Motion made by Nolen and seconded by Shukanes that the preliminary
plat for Sherwood Subdivision be accepted and proper notation
made by Secretary. Members Nolen and Shukanes'voted"Aye,
Alexander abstained and Sanders voted no.
Motion carried.
William C. Walsh, City Engineer, explained that immediately after
preparing field notes on a previous offer of land for the well
site on Highway 518 that the owners had offered the City approx-
imately an additional acre of land which would bring the cost
up to about $7,100.00. He recommended the City accept the offer.
of this additional land for the well site. Motion to do so
made by Alexander and seconded by Nolen. All members voted aye,
no noes.
