1964-04-09 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES14 '--The regular meeting for held on Thursday Night, Texas Avenue, with the present. ` the City of Pearland City Council was April 9, 1964, at the City Hall, 14429 following City Officials and -guests Mayor E. T. Gibbons, Cduncilmen John'G. Kegley, Thomas P. Alex- ander', Victor A,' Nolen, David L. Smith, Jr, Gene. E.SAnders, and Councilman -elect Steve A. Shukanes. Guests: Frank Batridger, F. I. Coley, Buck Hausman and M. R. Swenson. Due to the delayed arrival of Mayor Gibbons, Mayor ProAtem John G. Kegley presided and opened the meeting at 7:30 P. M. with the reading of the minutes of a.special meeting held on March 30, 19$4, the regular meeting held on April 2, 1964, and a special meeting held on April 6, 1964.' Motion made by Nolen and seconded by Smith that the following outstanding invoices for the Water and Sewer Department and the City of Pearland - Operating Accounts, be approved and paid. I. Coley stated to the Council the office had refused to issue him a water connection order for the home he is building in Linwood Addition. After some discussion the Council instructed office manager to write a letter to Mr. J. E. Little requesting a meeting with him as soon as possible, within a week, to discuss the installation of adequate water and sewer lines in his Addition. Mr. Buck Hausman, a prospective developer of a subdivision to be known as "Village Green" a small part of which is in the City of Pearland, presented a plat for approval. The plat was -turned, aver to the subdivision committee for recommendations. Under the order of old business it was announced the _E?ty hack-- been informed by Mr. Russo, (see Minutes April 7, 196f that the City could acquire the desired water ell site. �'e propert,y to be described by metes and bounds 1�1r "for the' sum of $4,500.00, and they would draw up the necessary. -I - .yrs": Mayer Gins having arrived from Austin next informed the Council that all three Permits for sewage treatment plants and locations for them had been approved by the State Water Polutien and Control Board. The next item of old business for discussion concerned a sewer Line to serve the McGlathery & Yost project and the Pearland Investment Project. Mr. Orlen 0►Day in response to the engineerts request at the previous meeting for an alternate route for the line stated the Pearland Investment Company did not want to make any changes in the proposed line at this time. Office Manager reported that Mr. Yost had called the office as requested by Mr. Nolen and stated the change would be accepted by them. Due to Engineers absence, further discussion was postponed until the next regular meeting. Motion made by Smith and seconded by Sanders that a contract with the State Department of Public Welfare, covering employees of the City of Pearland with Social Security, be exe cuted by Ordinance No. "!CN _. #44.,6 494-44C ✓blpd�4 9Vd W 0?N Na Aloes i Motion made by Nolen and seconded by Alexander that the results of the Election for Mayor and two Councilmen be accepted with .the exception that two nen-residents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Johnson, be struck from the eligible list, along with reducing the total votes for the Mayor and the two Councilmen with the highest votes. All members voted aye, no noes. Motion carried. Motion Made by Nolen and seconded by Alexander that office manager hire Miss Cora Reber as Janitress for the office at $1.50 per hour. All members voter aye_- no noes. Motion carried. 16 Motion made by Sanders and seconded by Nolen that the Council adopt the following resolution:, That thanks be extended to David L. Smith, Jr., on his retirement from the City Council, for efforts above and beyond the call of duty on behalf of the City of. Pearland. A copy of the minutes be given Mr. Smith. Members Nplen, Sanders, Alexander and Kegley, along with Mayor Gibbons vote aye. Member David L. Smith Jr. abstained. Motion carried. A vroWS well drilling Ordinance used by League City was handed to the Council by David L. Smith, Jr. The Ordinance was turned over to committee members Alexander and Nolen for review. Councilman Sanders brought up for clarification the definition. for Minor and Collector Streets as described in the Sub- division Ordinance, Meeting adjourned at 11:00 P. M.
