MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
gARLAND, TEXAS, HELD IN SAID CITY HALL ON JANUARY 16. 1 -97T. --AT
0 P. M.
A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas
was called to order by Mayor Keller with the following present:

Mayor Keller stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss ..�
streets in Longwood Park Subdivision, cost estimates of.:Police
and Courts Building, Planning and Zoning Commission, Fire Chief's
car and any other business that might be brought before the Council.
STREETS - LONGWOOD PARK SUBDIVISION:
It was moved by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman Ellis
that based on the recommendation of the City Engineer on September
8, 1967, and subject to the receipt of a satisfactory maintenance
bond for the streets in Longwood Subdivisicn as listed in Mr. John
Waling's letter dated December 12, 1967, that the said streets be
accepted by the City of Pearland. Motion passed 5 to 0.
POLICE AND COURTS BUILDING:
After a discussion relative to the advantages of adding a second
story to the Police and Courts Building now under construction,
it was the consensus of opinion to continue -with the original plan
to construct a one story building and pursue plans for selling the
100,000.00 bonds for the City Hall, Police Station and Fire Station.
FIRE CHIEF'S CAR:
It was moved by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman Sanders
that in accordance with the Pearland Volunteer Fire Department's

letter dated January 15, 1968, and based on the concurrence
of the legality by the City Attorney, that the City advertise for
bids to be received until February 22, 1968 for an automobile to be
used by the Fire Chief and that the cost for said automobile be
placed in escrow with the City prior to the awarding of any bid.
Also, that the cost of advertising for bids be paid for by the City
of Pearland and charged to the Fire Department Account No. 600.
Motion passed 5 to 0.
EXPENSES:
It was moved by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman Sanders
that the following items be approved for payment:
Check No. 179 - $733.68 - William C. Walsh (Construction)
Check No. 3079 16.25 - Mrs. B. L. Hackney - (General
Fund)
Check No. 3080 4.00 - H. R. Stevens _ (General Fund)
Check No. 1941 38.2. - Andrews (General Fund -Payroll)
Check No. 1942 37.74 - Boland (General Fund -Payroll)
Motion passed 5 to 0.
CORRESPONDENCE:
1. Mayor Keller read a letter from the Westminister
Civic Club requesting the City Council to honor
the recommendation of the Brazoria County Drainage
Commissioners to place tile in the open drainage
ditch between Westminister and Sherwood Subdivision.
Mayor Keller requested the City Administrator to
acknowledge receipt of the letter and refer the
matter to the Drainage Committee for a report at the
next regular meeting.
2. Mayor Keller read a letter from the Water Quality
Board requesting that a new resolution be adopted
authorizing Mayor Keller to sign necessary documents
on Projects WPC TEX 352 and WPC TEX 455. City
Administrator was requested to being back a
resolution for the next regular meeting.
3. A letter was read from a resident of McAllen, Texas
commending Officer Kennedy for the manner in which
he conducted himself when presenting the Mc Allen
resident with a speeding citation.

Councilman Sanders read a letter from Mr. Albert A. Leazer, Worshipful
Master of the Pearland Lodge No. 1384, A. F. & A. M. requesting
the City to accept the dedication of a 60 ft. street to be donated
by Mr. Berry Miller, Sr. Said street to intersect at the south side
of Walnut Street in the vicinity of Austin.Street. Mr. Leazer
was present at the meeting and stated that the street would be
paved with concrete paving in accordance with the requirements of
the City, with the exception of wanting a drive -over type curb on _
the west side of the proposed street. The street would be approximately
200 feet long. . It was moved by Councilman Ellis, seconded by
Councilman Sanders to accept the proposal and allow the street to be
constructed in accordance with the City of Pearland subdivision
requirements, with the exception that the west curb may be made of the
drive -over type, and that the street be accepted by the City upon
its completion and the dedication document on file with the City.
Motion passed 5 to 0.
WATER LINES•
It was the consensus of opinion of the City Council for the City
Administrator to hold in abeyance the order for the extension of the
water line 200 feet north of Regal Oaks Drive until further action
by the City Council.
