The regular meeting of the City Council'of the City of Pearland was
called to order by Mayor Keller with the following present:

Invocation was given by Mayor Keller.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES:
It was moved by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Watson
that the minutes of .the regular meeting of the City Council held
on December 28, 1967, be approved as read. Motion passed 3 to 0.
Councilman Courtright abstained due to his absence from the meeting.
BID PETROLEUM PRODUCTS:
Bids for furnishing petroleum products for the City of Pearland were
opened and the results were read as follows:

It was moved by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman Sanders
that the bids be referred to the City Attorney and City Administrator
for tabulation and recommendations at the next regular council meeting,;
Motion passed 4 to 0.
MAYOR'S ACTIVITY REPORT:
1. Mayor Keller read a letter from the Houston Post
concerning inaccuracies in an article which appeared
in the Post regarding the recent bond issue.

2. Mayor Keller read a notice that a meeting of the
Houston -Galveston Area Council would be held on
January 16, 1968 at 10:30 A. M. in the Federal Land
Building, Houston, Texas, for the purpose of electing
officers.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
APPROVAL OF EXPENSES:
It was moved by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Courtright
that the payroll checks dated January 15, 1968 be approved for
payment. Motion passed 4 to 0.
It was moved by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman Wasek
to approve the expenses to be paid by Checks 3000 through 3077 inclusive,
Motion passed 4 to 0.
It was moved by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Watson
to approve the supplemental check list dated January ll, 1968 excluding
Check No. 179 in the amount of $773.68. Motion passed 4 to 0.

CITIZENS:
S. I. Barfield
hh was recognized and asked if the 35% reduction in taxes
was the same/thetTax Assessor told him about in the Spring as the
35% reduction due to the fact that water and sewer facilities were not
available. Due to the confusion concerning the facts involved, Mr.
Keller requested Mr. Barfield to write him a letter concerning the
situation.
Mr. B. M. Jamison was recognized and stated he wished to discuss a
statement that he said a Councilman, not present at the meeting, had
made concerning water and sewer service to the Clear Creek Estates
area. Mayor Keller advised that he should take this up with the
individual concerned as this was nctCouncil action.
� Mr. Lee Plyler presented what appeared to be Page
57 of the Minutes of
a Council Meeting which contained a petition dated July 6, 1964
and asked for verification that it was a copy of the Council minutes
and asked what dispostion had been made of the petition. Mayor
Keller requested the City Administrator search the minutes and report
his findings.
HEALTH ORDINANCE:
It was moved by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman Sanders
that the third reading of the Health Ordinance be deferred until
the next regular meeting night. Motion passed 4. to 0.
STREETS - LONGWOOD SUBDIVISION:
Deferred until special meeting to be held January 16, 1968 at
7:30 P. M.

BOARD OF EQUALIZATION:
It was moved by Councilman Wasek, seconded by Councilman Sanders to
accept the final report of the Board of Equalization on the assessed
valuation and dismiss the Board with a vote of thanks. Motion
passed 4 to 0.
STREET LIGHTS:
The Houston Lighting and Power Company's report on street lights
for McGinnis, Sleepy Hollow and Taylor Lane was referred to the
Street Light Committee for recommendations.
The meeting recessed at 9:30 P. M.
Meeting reconvened at 9:35 P. M.
AGREEMENT WITH BRAZORIA COUNTY:
The City Administrator was requested to send a letter of acknowledgement
to the County Commissioner concerning the agreement of street mainten-
ance and that our recommendations for street maintenance would be
forthcoming.

A'.'discussion was held concerning a request to open Park Avenue to
Pear Street. This matter was referred to the Budget Committee for
a report on funds available and the Street and Bridge Committee for
feasibility study.
AUTHORIZATION TO SIGN CHECKS:
It was moved by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Courtright
that Mayor Keller and all five Councilmen be authorized to sign checks
drawn on all of the City of Pearland accounts in the Pearland State"
Bank and a combination of two be required on each check. Motion
passed 4 to 0.
FIRE CHIEF'S AUTOMOBILE:

The City Administrator was requested to determine whether or not
the request from the Fire Department must be signed by three of
their Commissioners and if so, such request for such automobile and
postpone action until Tuesday night.
Meeting adjourned by motion at 30:15 P. M.
