1994-04-25 CITY COUNCIL AND PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION JOINT PUBLIC HEARING MEETING MINUTESMINUTES OF A JOINT PUBLIC HEARING OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON APRIL 25, 1994, AT 7:00 P. M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY HALL, 3519 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND, TEXAS The hearing was called to order with the following present: Mayor C. V. Coppinger Mayor Pro Tem/Councilmember Joy Colson Councilmember D. A. Miller Councilmember Benny Frank Councilmember Randy Weber Councilmember David Smith Planning & Zoning Chairman Richard Tetens Commissioner Barbara Lenamon Commissioner Helen Beckman Commissioner Pat Lopez Commissioner Jack Womack Division Director Glen Erwin City Attorney Dick Gregg, Jr. City Secretary Pat Jones Others in attendance: City Engineer John Hargrove Absent from the meeting: City Manager Paul Grohman, Division Director Richard Burdine, and Commissioners Emil Beltz and Rob Larsen. NUMBER OF SIGNATURES ON ATTENDANCE ROSTER: 0 PURPOSE OF THE HEARING: APPLICATION NO. 43, REQUEST OF THOMAS THU HUYNH, OWNER, FOR AN AMENDMENT TO THE LAND USE AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE OF SAID CITY FROM CLASSIFICATION SINGLE FAMILY DWELLING DISTRICT (R-2) TO GENERAL BUSINESS DISTRICT (GB), ON THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBED PROPERTY, TO -WIT: LOT 1, BLOCK 1, JACKSON ADDITION (1404 HATFIELD) SPEAKING FOR THE PROPOSED REQUEST: 1. Thomas Thu Huynh, 10110 Sage Canyon, Houston. Mr. Huynh spoke in favor of the zone change, stating there were few houses in the area, he had heard no complaints from the adjacent neighbors, and he would be selling flowers, plants, and landscaping items. SPEAKING AGAINST THE PROPOSED REQUEST: None Chairman Richard Tetens introduced the members of the Commission and announced the group would meet in the second floor conference room following the public hearing to consider this request. QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD: Discussion concerned the amount of land involved which was stated to be a five acre tract. Mr. Huynh was asked if he planned to have a residence there and he indicated that he hoped to in the future. Council questioned the wisdom of zoning the entire tract general business when part of it may need to be single family dwelling 46 district at some point in time. Council requested the Commission to pursue this issue further in their meeting after the hearing. ADJOURNMENT The hearing adjourned at 7:12 P. M.
