1967-10-21 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES22, MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, MY COUNCIL HELD ON OCTOBER 21, 1967, AT 10:00 A. M. IN THE CITY HALL A special meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem Gene E. Sanders with the Following present:.. -- Mayor Pro Tem Councilman t Councilman Councilman City Secretary Absent: Mayor Councilman Gene E. Sanders A. G. Ellis Dale Watson B. J. Courtright W. A. McClellan Lloyd C. Hawkins E. A. Was ek Visitors: Chief -of -Police A. H. Casey, Carty Dale Kennedy, Al Storrs and Leonard Shoemaker. Mayor Pro Tem Sanders stated that the purpose of the meeting will be to take action on Field Village Subdivision, Section I, final plat and such other business that might be brought before the Council. A motion was made by Councilman Watson, seconded by Councilman Ellis that Mayor L. C. Hawkinst letter of resignation dated October 17, 1967 be accepted with regrets. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Ellis, seconded by Councilman Watson that W. A. McClellan's letter of resignation as City Secretary and Tax Assessor -Collector dated October 7, 1967 be accepted with regrets. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Watson that Councilman Ellis be elected by the Council as the City Secretary and Mrs. Dorothy Cook be _apointed ointed Assistant City Secretary to act during regular busines hours of the office until a successor f'or the resigning City Secretary be employed. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried with Councilmen Sanders, Watson and Courtright voting "aye" with no "noes." Councilman Ellis abstained. A motion was made by Councilman Ellis, seconded by Councilman Courtright that W. A. McClellan be retained as Tax Assessor Collector for the City of Pearland, as necessary to conduct the business of the City. Remuneration shall be at a rate of $8.00 per hour. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Ellis that based on the recommendation of Police Chief Casey that Investigator A. A. Jones be prompted to Assistant Chief -of -Police, add Patrolman Srygler be promoted to Sergeant effective November 1, 1967 with no increase in salary. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman Watson that based on the recommendations of Chief Casey that Cary Dale Kennedy be hired as a patrolman at a starting salary of $425-00 per month. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "no." The final'plat of Field Village Subdivision, Section I was signed in accordance with action taken in a previous meeting. A motion was made by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman Watson that the meeting adjourn. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes .'r, Meeting adjourned at 12:00 noon.
