COUNCIL HELD ON JUNE 29, 1967, AT :QO P_. M. IN THE CITY HALL
A special meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by
Mayor Hawkins with the following present:

Meeting was called to order by Mayor Hawkins at 8:00 P. M. Prayer
was offered by Chaplain Matlock.
Mayor Hawkins stated that the purpose of the special meeting was to
study several ordinances Wh chthe City needed to approve and adopt,
and f or --any., other urgent business that might be brought before the
Council.
A discussion was held regarding Ordinance No. 133 - Speed Zone Ordinance
and a motion was made by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman
Sanders that Item (d) in Ordinance No. 133 be changed as follows:
"to a point 250 feet east of Sherwood Drive for a distance of approximately
.700 of a mile, 40 miles per hour," and that Item (e) be change as
follows: " to a point 250 feet east of Sherwood Drive to a point west
of West Circle Drive 3,749 feet for a distance of approximately .560
miles, 50 miles per hour."." Also, insert in parenthesis following
F. M. 518 in Section I - (a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f'), (g),- the
word "Broadway"and to have the first reading as rewritten. Secretary;
to advise -the State Highway Department - Attention Mr. Lipscomb - by
letter of our action with a request that any objections be made at the
earliest possible date. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the
motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes."
A motion was made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Courtright
that the fire hydrant located in the par:ktng_area.of the Sherwood Village
Shopping Center be moved to a new location, if agreeable with the Fire
Marshal, Fire Chief and the City Engineer. The new location of the
fire hydrant to be approximately 100 feet east of the present location
and such location is to comply with existing insurance regulations.
The expense incurred in moving the plug to be borne by others, not the
City of Pearland. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion
carried, -all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes."
,FIRST.RZADING SPEED ZONE ORDINANCE NO. 133:
AN ORDINANCE ALTERING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS ESTABLISHED
FOR VEHICLE UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 6701D, VERNONfS CIVIL
STATUTES, UPON THE BASIS OF AN ENGINEERING AND TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION,
UPON CERTAIN STREETS AND HIGHWAYS, OR PARTS THEREOF, WITHIN THE
CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, AS SET OUT IN THIS ORDINANC,4
AND PROVIDING A PENALTY OF A FINE NOT TO EXCEED $200.00 FOR THE
VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE.
Following due discussion of proposed ordinance covering operations of
Southwestern Bell Telephone in the City of Pearland, it was agreed that
instead of extending the ordinance for a period of 20 years, -that'
it should be on a 5 ear automatic renewal basis with rate to be
changed from 2% to 2P. Also, all mileage charges to be eliminated with-
in the city limits of Pearland. Secretary instructed to make these
changes and pass to the City Attorney for his opinion and recommendations.
The proposed dog ordinance was discussed and referred back to the Humane
Committee JEllis & Sanders) for further study and recommendations.

A motion was made by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman
Wasek that the meeting adjourn. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and
the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with°no "noes."
