COUNCIL HELD ON MAY 25, 1967, AT 7:30 P. M. IN THE PEARLAND CITY HALL
A regular meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by

Meeting opened with prayer by Rev. Foster, Pastor of the First Baptist
Church.
A motion was made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Watson
that the minutes of a special meeting held on May 9, 1967 be approved
with corrections and that Councilman Ellis be commended for the
excellent -job he did in keeping them. WHEREUPON, the question was
asked and the rdoti.o.n carried, .all present voted "ayes' wtih no ."'noes ."
A motion was made by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman
Watson that the Council postpone action of minutes of'the regular
meeting held on May 11, 1967 until the next regular Council meeting.
WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Coucil-
men present voted "aye" with no,"noes."_
A mtion was made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Wase:k
that the invoice and check list dated May 25, 1967 be approved
including Check No. 2415 not listed thereon and excluding Check No.
2409 which will be discussed by the City Council and City Engineer
at a future date. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion
carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes."
Councilman Sanders reporting for the Budget Committee made a motion
that Chief Casey be authorized to hire one more patrolman who is
thoroughly experienced in police work at a salary not to exceed
$425.00 per month for regular full time duty and that effective
date of this employment be no earlier than June 15, 1967. This
request has been reviewed by the Budget and Finance Committee and comes
to the Council with that Committee's recommendation for passage.
Seconded by Councilman Ellis. WHEREUPON, the question was asked
and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no
"noes."
A motion was made by -Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman
Watson that should the Police Chief be unable to find a suitable
applicant for full time duty that he be.author.ized.,to hire for.
a period of no longer than three months beginning no earlier than
June 15, 1967, a replacement officer to work during t -he vacation
period at a rate not to exceed $425.00 monthly. WHEREUPON, the
question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present
voted"aye" with no "noes."
Following due discussion on the purchase of an oil sprayer and roller
on which Council action had been previously postponed, Councilman
Ellis made a motion, seconded by Councilman Watson. that.the roller
be purchased from the Hi -Way: Equipment Company for the sum of
$2,450.00 less 2% for cash within 10 days -and the oil sprayer be
purchased from R. B. Everett Company for the sum of $1,220.00 less
2% for cash within 10 days, both bids recommended as the lowest and
best bids by the Street and Bridge'Committee. WHEREUPON, the
question ws asked and the motion carried,with Councilmen Ellis,

Watson, Sanders and Wasek voting "aye" and Councilman Courtright
voting "no."
A motion was made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Ellis
that the letter drafted by City Attorney Galli regarding homeowners
in Westminister Subdivision who have not tied on to the City sewage
line be accepted as City policy and for the City Secretary to mail
letters immediately to them. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and
the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes."
A motion was made by Councilman Wasek, seconded by Councilman Watson `
that the Mayor be authorized to execute a release of tax udgement
lien dated April 6, 1962 in the amount of $9.51, on Lot 49, Block A
Pearland Townsite, as the judgement has long since been satisfied.
WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all
Councilmen present voted "ayes' with no "noes."
Sealed bids for sand stabilized pug mill shell were opened by the
City Secretary. The following bids were submitted:
John Young Company, Inc. $3.25 per ton net.
Leigh A. Blumer 3.35 per ton net.
Pearland Lumber Company, Inc. 3.43 per ton net.
Parker Brothers, Inc. 3.24 per ton net.
A motion was made by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman
Watson that the bid of Parker Brothers be accepted as the lowest
and best bid. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion
carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes."
A motion was made by Councilman Courtright, seconded by Councilman
Watson that Jim Bob Durrett be paid an additional two weeks salary
in lieu of taking a two weeks vacation as per recommendation of
Public Work's Director Escue V. Harris. WHEREUPON, the question ice;
was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted Paye"
with no "noes."
Mayor Hawkins appointed Councilman Ellis to assist the City Secretary
in pricing grass mowing invoices.
Dr. J. H. Williams appeared before the Council as a resident of Regency
Park Subdivision requesting stop signs at the intersection of Byron
and Randall Streets. Mayor Hawkins referred this matter to the
Sign Committee and Police Chief for whatever action they deemed necessary.
David L. Smith, Jr. appeared before the Council with a preliminary
plat of Sherwood Section II. Following due discussion a motion was
made by Councilman Ellis, seconded by Councilman Watson that the
preliminary plat for Sherwood Subdivision Section II be accepted
subject to Lot 2 - Block 1 being changed to meet Subdivision
Ordinance requirements. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the
motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes."
City Secretary instructed to write a letter to Commissioner Jordan
requesting repairs to a portion of County Road 387 south from West
Broadway Street.
L. E. Dittman appeared before the Council requesting the latest
information concerning the Pearland Sportsman's Club Rifle Range.
Secretary instructed to write letter to the Club requesting the latest
information on their plans to locate another site for their rifle club.
A motion was made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Wasek
that the meeting adjourn. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the
motion carried, all Councilmen present voted'"aye" with no "noes."
