A special meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by

Councilman Victor A. Nolen
Councilman Aubrey G. Ellis
Councilman Joe Dan Calvin

Absent:
Councilman E. A. Wasek
Visitors: Harold Cheek and Elmer Grayson-t.arl.ton McComb, Frances do Bert
Mayor Hawkins stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discussJamison
hiring two men for outside work, agreement with Drainage District
for storm sewers on McLean Road and any other business that might
be brought before the Council.
Harold Cheek and Elmer Grayson were interviewed for outside positions.
Following due discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Calvin,
seconded by Councilman Nolen that Elmer Grayson be hired by the City
of Pearland with a starting salary of $375.00 per month with raise
consideration.of $25.00 per month after 90 days. This employment
subject to physical examination by Dr. Rau of Mr. Grayson. WHEREUPON,
the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present
voted "aye" with no "noes."
A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Ellis
that the Secretary write a letter of commendation to Johnny Villanueva
and adopt a resolution congratulating this boy on his Golden (Moves
Championship. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion
carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes."
A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Ellis
that Escue Harris be authorized to hire temporary help in hopes
finding a steady employee for the City. Salary not to exceed $350.0
per month. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion Q
carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes."

A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Coun loran Cogbil
that the City be authorized to use black base on street in Pearland.
WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, Councilmen
Calvin, Cogbill-and Ellis voting *aye" with Councilman Nolen voting
"no."
Councilman Calvin noted that the right-of-way along Orange Street
was too high due to drainage spoil bank being dumped on road bed.
A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Nolen
that the City bid $500.00 for Chevrolet dump truck owned by the
Drainage District and now available for sale. WHEREUPON,, the
r-- question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilman present
voted +'aye's with no "noes."
A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Ellis
that agreement be adopted by the City dealing with drainage of
property to be developed by Frank Barringer along McLean Road
from the southeast corner of the property and extending south to
Mary's Creek. This agreement subject to ratification by the Drainage
District. WHEREUPON, the ques%ion was asked and the motion carried,
all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes."
A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman
Calvin that the meeting adjourn. Whereupon, the question was
asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye"
with no "noes."
