1967-01-16 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES135 MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, CITY COUNCIL HELD ON JANUARY 16, 1967, AT 7:30 P. M. IN THE CITY HALL, PEARLAND, TEXAS. A special meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by Mayor Hawkins with the following present: Mayor Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman City Secretary Chief -of -Police Superintendent Absent: Councilman Visitors: Betty Storrs - Tri Lloyd C. Hawkins Joe Dan Calvin Basil L. Cogbill E. A. Wasek Victor A. Nolen W. A. McClellan A. H. Casey Escue V. Harris Aubrey G. Ellis County News. Mayor Hawkins stated that the purpose of the meeting was to ioeview- applications for employment and any other business, that might be brought before the Council. Councilman Calvin stated that Commissioner Jordan ha.d.contacted him and requested the use of the county jail building for 'a full -rime Justice - of -the -Peace and a full time Deputy Sheriff. This would -not -leave room for our Police Department in the building. Following due discussion, a motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Nolen that the base station operated by the Police Department be moved from the county jail building to the city hall.. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Nolen that Officer A. A. Jones of the Police Department be given a $25.00 per month salary increase effective February 1, 1967, and that he -.be designated as Criminal Investigator. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." Councilman Calvin made a motion that the tabled motion on the application of. Mr. Dan Triplett be brought up and at the request of Mr. Triplett that his name be withdrawn as an applicant for employment with the City. Motion seconded by Councilman Nolen. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Wasek that the City employ Mr. L. E. Davenport at $450.00 per month, effective February 1, 1967. This employment subject to physical examination of Mr. Davenport by local physician. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was -:made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Cogbill that Sid Hill be given notice of a two weeks termination of employment to bE effective February 1, 1967. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted 'aye" with no "noes,ff A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Cogbill that the City of Pearlandvi engineer prepare field nates and the City Attorney prepare deeds for the Right -of -Way on the east side of Old Alvin Road from Walnut to Westminister and on the west side of Old Alvin Road from Walnut to Maryls Creek. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilman present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Nolen that the City of Pearland furnish. Brookside Village our Electrical Inspector for a $50.00 per month retainer fee. This agreement to be valid for one year from this date. The number of inspections to 136 average two monthly otherwise it will be necessary to negotiate for an additional charge for the inspector's service. In the event our work load would pick up this agreement could be cancelled by giving 30 days notice to Brookside Village. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Calvin that fifty street sign assemblies be purchased. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and themotion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Calvin that the meeting adjourn.
