1966-11-11 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES114, MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF .THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS CITY COUNCIL HELD ON NOVEMBER 15, 1966, AT 7:30 P. M. IN THE CITY HALL A special meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by Mayor Hawkins with the following present: Absent: Mayor Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman Lloyd C. Hawkins Victor A. Nolen Joe Dan Calvin Aubrey G. Ellis Gene Wasek Basil L. Cogbill Visitors: A. H. Casey, Chief -of -Police, David Banta, Marvin Priest, Ken Hutchinson and C. J. Galli, Jr. Mayor Hawkins -stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the hiring two policemen to fill vacancies in the police department and any other business that might be brought before the Council. Chtef Casey and Captain Ken Hutcherson recommended the hiring of David Banta and__Marvin Priest as police officers. The Council agreed on the recommendations of.Chief Casey and Captain Ken Hutcherson and the two new officers were sworn in. A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Calvin that the City regretfully accept the resignation of Jack Harrison,as City Attorney due to illness,effective November 15, 1966. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Wasek, seconded by Councilman Calvin that the City retain Cesare J. Galli, Jr.,'on a temporary basis, as legal advisor for the City of Pearland. The retainer fee to be $250.00 per month with Attorney to take care of preparing ordinances, attending meetings and conferences, excluding travel expenses, Council assistance in correspondence and legal consultation and to review all contracts when deemed necessary. All suits against or for the City of Pearland will be handled on a per diem basis. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted"aye" with no "noes." City Secretary instructed to advise Attorney Harrison on this action along with a letter of commendation with, signatures of all city officials on same. A motion was made by Councilman Calvin seconded by Councilman Ellis that the meeting adjourn.
