1966-10-27 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTESMINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON OCTOBER 27, 1966, AT -7:30 P. M. IN THE CITY :HALL A regular meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by Mayor Hawkins in the City Hall with the following present: Mayor Councilman Councilman Councilman City Secretary Absent: Councilman Councilman Lloyd C. Hawkins Aubrey G. Ellis E. A. Wasek Basil L. Cogbill W. A.' McClellan: Victor A. Nolen Joe Dan Calvin Visitors: G. L. Miller, Donald F. West, Van J. Roark, Charles E. Newmann, B. M. Jamison, H. W. Sanders, G. Dewey Hydrick, Jr. John W. Mikeska, Frances Jamison, Marie Moore, Gordon Rysavy, Ernest T. Johnson, Noel J. Deisch, L. E. Dittmann, Mrs. L. E. Dittmann, D. R...Keller, A. C. Schupp, W. T. McClelland, D. R. Crawford, Bill Courtright. The meeting was opened by Mayor Hawkins at 7:30 P. M. and a prayer was given by Reverend Durwood Crowder, minister of the First Methodist Church. A motion was made by Councilman Cogbill, seconded by Councilman Wasek that the minutes of a special meeting held on October 6, 1966, be approved. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Wasek, seconded by Councilman Cogbill that the minutes of special meeting held on October 10, 1966, be_approved. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all_06uncilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." `-- A motion was made by Councilman Cogbill, seconded by Councilman Wasek that the minutes of the regular Council meeting held_on October 13, 1966, be approved with the following corrections noted - first page; 6th paragraph should be changed to Cogbill as seconding the motion and Nolen.making the motion. 7th paragraph should be changed to Councilman Cogbill making the motion and Councilman Nolen seconding the motion. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Ellis, seconded by Councilman Cogbill that the payroll and invoice check list dated October 27, 1966, be approved. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." Mayor Hawkins appointed a standing committee of Councilman Calvin and Councilman Nolen to work with the committee from Friendswood on water and sewage problems. A motion was made by Councilman Wasek, seconded by Councilman Cogbill that two IBM typewriters be purchased on a rental :;purchase agreement as follows: 24- MONTH TIME PAYMENT PLAN Base Price, Down Payment Balance Carrying Charge 5% Sales Tax Balance 1st Payment 23 Payments 900.00 137.13 762.87 76.29 Exempt 839.16 35.o8 34.96 WHEREUPON, the a4estion was asked and the motion car3ied0 a..C.auncilmen pert Xo t ay rr A ,� Councilman Wasek explained to the audience that the Council in a s e ial meeting held on October 26, 1966, agreed upon setting a tax rate of 85� per $100.00 assessed valuation as being adequate to cover the budget for 1966- 1967. The budget was originally based on a somewhat higher valuation prior to the meeting of the Equalization Board. B. J. Courtright, representing the Sherwood Subdivision Civic Club inquired of the City Council as to the possibility of securing street lights for Sherwood Subdivision and to post speed limit signs of 25 MPH in the Subdivision. A motion was made by Councilman Ellis, seconded by Councilman Cogbill that the Secretary request the Houston Lighting and Power Company to make a survey of the light needs for Sherwood Subdivision. Also, write a letter to the Developersto.determine whether or not they would participate in this program. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Ellis, seconded by Councilman Wasek that the meeting adjourn. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted 'aye" with no -"noes." Meeting adjourned at 8:12 P. M.
