1966-08-26 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES9 MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF TI(M CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON: AUGUST 26, 1966, AT 7:30 P. M. A special meeting of the City Council was called to order by Mayor Pro Tempore Victor A. -Nolen in the City Hall with the following present: ° Mayor Pro Tempore Victor A. Nolen Councilman. n Joe Dan Calvin Councilman E* A. Wasek - Councilman Aubrey G. Ellis City Secretary W. A. McClellan City Engineer Jim Bell Absent: Mayor Lloyd C. Hawkins :Councilman Basil L. Cogbill Visitors: Mr. & Mrs. Dan Keller Mayor -Pro Tem Victor A. Nolen opened the meeting by stating that the purpose was to discuss the Sleepyhollow Subdivision sewer system; the West Meadows Subdivision preliminary plat;,Linwood Section 2 - water and sewer lines approval; review the water and sewage line plans and specifications as prepared by Walsh & McLaren on the Shady - crest, Creekview and Regal Oaks Subdivision; the purchase of patching and base material to be used on streets; to discuss hiring a main- tainer operator; the purchase of a tapping machine for transite water and.sewage lines; to consider a raise for the maintenance superin- tendent and for any other business that might properly be brought before the Council. A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Nolen that Street and Bridge Department be authorized to purchase ($500.00 in patching material. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and -the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Nolen that the Street and Bridge Department be authorized to purchase $500.00 in base material. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Calvin. that the hMaintenance Superintendent Escue V. Rives be hired on September 1, 1966, asa maintainer operator at a salary of $400.00 per month, with a 90 day review on performance to consider an additional $25.00 salary increase. Mr. Rives to be given a physical examination by Dr. Rau. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Wasek that E. V. Harris be authorized to investigate the purchase of_a tapping machine for transite pipe, not to exceed the sum of $200.00. WHEREUPON, the question.was asked and the motion carried, all Council- men present voted "aye" with no "noes." water Engineer Jim Bell explained the plans and specifications for sewage and lines to serve Shadycrest, Creekview and Regal Oaks. Cost estimate to be made at a later date, A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Wasek that Check No. 124 - constructI on fund be approved and signed for Walsh & McLaren in the amount 'of $9,913.82, Preliminary Phase of Water and Sewer Lines - Sleepyhollow, Creekview and Regal Oaks Sub- division. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, (1 all. Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Wasek that the preliminary plat of the West Meadows Subdivision, as revised and approved by the City Engineer, be accepted by the City. WHERE- UPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, Councilmen Nolen, Wasek and Calvin voting "aye" with no "noes." Councilman Ellis abstained, �-^ A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Calvin that the sewage lines in Sleepyhollow Subdivision, as shown on the "as built" plat dated, January 5, 1966, and enclosed in the areas outlined in red only, dated and signed on August 26, 1966, by Engineer Jim Bell as follows: Block 5, Block 6, Block 7, Block 8, Block 9 and Block 11, also, Lots 1, 2 and 3 in Block 12 of the plat on file of the Sleepyhollow Subdivision. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Nolen:, seconded by Councilman Ellis that the City accept the water piping of Linwood Subdivision, Section 2 as per "as built" plans dated and signed by City Engineer Jim Bell,.August 26, 1966. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with nb "noes , 1r A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Ellis that the City accept the existing sewage piping in Linwood Section 2, subject to the developer, J. E. Little, providing money in an escrow account to cover the cost of connecting these unconnnected lines to the proposed city trunk sewage line and for an extra manhole required by the spacing to fit the proposed development. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Ellis that the three bids for the difference between a 2" water line and an 8" water line as requested by the City to cross.old Alvin Road at Orange Street be referred to City :engineer for checking ,and recommendations for refund to J. E. Little. WHEREUPON.. the question was asked and the motion carried, all'Councilmen present voted "aye's with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Ellis, seconded by Councilman Calvin that the meeting adjourn.
