CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON MAY 12, 1966 IN THE CITY HALL
A regular meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by
Mayor Hawkins at 7:30 P. M. with the following present:

A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Wasek
that minutes of the meetingsheld on April 28, May 3 -and May 5, 1966
be approved. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and -the motion carried,
all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes." Councilman Cogbill
and Councilman Calvin • absent at this time..
The Committee on house numbering gave their final report on the re-
numbering of homes in Pearland as follows:
1. Even numbers on South and West Side of the Streets.
2. Numerical progression, North to South, and East to West.
3. Streets North of Highway 518 have "N" prefix.
4. Streets South of Highway 518 have "S" prefix.
5. Streets East of Highway 35 have "E" prefix.
6. Streets West of Highway 35 have "W" prefix.
7. Block changes marked on map where there are no breaks.
A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Ellis that
based on the recommendation of the Planning Commission that the firm
of Marmon, Mok & Green be requested to meet with the Council to discuss
the advantages of long range planning and the plans already formulated
by the Planning Commission. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the
motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes."
Councilman Calvin and Councilmen Cogbill absent at this time.
A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Ellis
that the following salaries and invoices be paid as-per,the check list
dated May 12, 1966. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion
carried, all Councilmen present voted 'aye" with no "noes." Councilman
Cogbill and Councilman Calvin absent at this time.
A motion was made by Councilman Ellis, seconded by Councilman Nolen
that all purchase orders be signed by the Secretary and any purchase
that exceeds $5.00 to be priced before issuing the purchase order.

Councilmar- Wasek and Councilman Ellis recommended that the City keep
y the 1957 Chevrolet instead of trading 3.t for the Plymouth.
Councilman Calvin and Councilman Cogbill reported that they had been
in a conference with the Mayors of Manvel and Brookside discussing the
garbage dump problems. They are trying to acquire some land for a
dump and would continue to cooperate with Pearland until a solution is
f ound .
Councilman Calvin reported that he had been informed by the State Highway

Department that it would be alriht to install "No Parking" signs
along the West Side of Highway 39 from Walnut Street South, if they
saw fit to do so.
A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Nolen .
that Mayor Hawkins be authorized to execute` the contract with Mr. Paul
D. Long, developer of Longwood Subdivision, pertaining to the entrance
road from F. M. 51$ to Longwood Subdivision._ WHEREUPON, the question
was asked and ':the motion carried, all Counc-linen voted "aye" with no
"noes."
Councilman Nolen reported there had been three meetings with the
Friendswood committee concerning mutual problems. They were ready
now to submit a rough draft of their decision to each Council member
to study.
Councilman Nolen reported that he along with Councilman Ellis and
Councilman Wasek had audited the Corporation Court records and suggested
ways to Judge Segelquist to keep his records in order to help the
audit committee in the future.
Public Work's Director Escue V. Harris reported that the work in the
Longwood Subdivision on the water and sewer lines within Brazoria
County had been carried out.
Councilman Nolen made a motion, seconded by Councilman Calvin that the
subject of holidays for the employees be referred to the -Insurance
Committee, with Chief Casey and Escue Harris being appointed as members.
WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Council-
men`:`voted "aye" with no "noes."
Councilman Calvin reported that the State Highway Department would
place shell along the shoulders of F. M. 518 at East Circle Drive,
West Circle Drive and Shadycrest Drive.
Also, a signal light at the intersection of Highway 35 and Brookside
Road is still under study by the State Highway Department and they
will let us know if and when they plan to install one at this
location.
Also, the Mimosa Acres Subdivision streets should be brought up to
county specifications by May 15, 1966.
Councilman Calvin further reported a special Electrical Board meeting
had been held and he attended same:
Also, letters were mailed to property owners in Willets Subdivision
along Taylor_ Lane outlining the proceedure for them to get city water
mains along their property.
A motion was made by Councilman Cogbill, seconded by Councilman Wasek
that the meeting adjourn. WHEREUPON, the question.was asked and
the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes."
