A special meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by Mayor Keller
with the following present:

The invocation was given by the Council Chaplain Forrest Hawkins.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman DeShazer.
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING:
1. Canvass of votes - Election held on Saturday April 3, 1971
and declaring the results.
Mayor Keller opened the envelope addressed to him and delivered to him by the Presiding
Judge of a City Officers' Election held on the 3rd day of April, 1971 in the Drama
Room of the Pearland High School,2337 N. Galveston for the purpose of electing two
Councilmen, Positions 1 and 5.
The following Election Returns were read:

The election returns having been read Councilman DeShazer introduced a resolution and
order and moved its adoption. The Motion was seconded by Councilman Black. Said
Resolution designated as number 71-24 and reads as follows:
There came on to be considered the returns of an election held on the 3 day of
April, 1971 for the purpose of electing the hereinafter named officials, and it
appearing from said returns, duly and legally made, that there were cast at said
election 965 valid and legal votes; that each of the candidates in said election
received the following votes:

Therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas:
That said election was duly called; that notice of said election was given in
accordance with law, and that said election was held in accordance with law, and that
Cecil W. Griffin was elected Councilman Postion/Place 1 and Benny J. Frank was elected
Councilman Postion/Place 5 and were duly elected Councilmen of said City at said election
and the said above named parties are hereby declared elected to said respective offices,
subject to the taking of their oaths and filing bond as provided by the laws of the
State of Texas.
It is further found and determined that in accordance with the order of this
governing body the Secretary posted written notice of the date, place and subject of
this meeting on the bulletin board located in the City Hall, a place convenient to the
public, and said notice having been so posted and remaining posted continuously for at
least three days preceding the date of,this meeting. A copy of the return of said
posting shall be attached to the minutes of this meeting and shall be made a part thereof
for all intents and purposes.
Voting aye on the above Resolution - Councilman DeShazer, Councilman Black, Councilman
McComb, Councilman Griffin and Councilman Wasek.
Voting Noes: None
The above resolution passed, approved and adopted'this 5 day of April, 1971.

Mayor Keller executed the Certificates of Election to Cecil W. Griffin for Councilman
Position 1 and Benny J. Frank for Councilman Position 5.
