1972-05-15 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES64 MINUTES OFA SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND HELD ON MAY 15, 1972, AT 7:40 P. M. IN THE CITY HALL, 2335 N. TEXAS AVENUE$ PEARLAND, TEXAS. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Keller with the following present: Mayor Councilman Councilman Councilman & Mayor Elect Councilman Councilman Councilman Elect City Manager City Attorney City Secretary INVOCATION & PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: D. R. Keller Cecil W. Griffin E. A. Wasek Carlton McComb James 0. DeShazer Benny J. Frank Gene E. Sanders William E. Wolff Bobby J. Williams Dorothy L. Cook The invocation was given by the Rev. Lewis E. Tucker, Minister of the First United Methodist Church of Pearland. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by City Attorney Bobby J. Williams. PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: 1. Canvass of Votes - City Officers' Election (Run Off) - May 13, 1972. and Resolution declaring the results. 2. Installation of City Officials, i CANVASS OF VOTES: Mayor Keller read from the Official Election Returns, certified by the Election Officials, the following: ELECTION RETURNS STATEMENT OF CANVASS AND ELECTION RETURN FOR'CITY OFFICERS' RUN OFF ELECTION HELD ON THE 13 DAY OF MAY, 1972, IN HARRIS COUNTY PRECINCT NO. 76, BRAZORIA COUNTY PRECINCTS ll, 12, 16, 28 and 29, IN PEARLAND, BRAZORIA & HARRIS COUNTIES, TEXAS TOTAL NUMBER OF VOTES CAST 1114 FOR MAYOR MACHINE # MACHINE # MACHINE # 116224 116205 116204 DAN R. Massey, Jr., Clerk, Mrs. Jack Miller, Clerk, Wm H. Suttle, Clerk, and Myrtle McCormack, Clerk. Mayor Keller read proposed Resolution No. 72-7 in full. It was moved by Councilman DeShazer, seconded by Councilman Griffin that Resolution No. 72-7 be passed, adopted and approved. Said Resolution No. 72-7 reads in caption as r-- follows: RESOLUTION NO. 72-7 RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF A CITY OFFICERS' RUN OFF ELECTION HELD ON MAY 13, 1972. FOR MAYOR Dan R. Keller 395 votes Carlton McComb 712 votes FOR COUNCILMAN POSITION/PLACE 3 William Gonzales 428 votes Gene E. Sanders 673 votes Carlton McComb was duly elected Mayor of the City of Pearland at said election, and Gene E. Sanders was duly elected Councilman Postion/Place 3. Voting "aye" - Councilman Frank, Councilman Wasek, Councilman McComb, Councilman DeShazer, and Councilman Griffin. Voting "no" - None Motion passed 5 to 0. Mayor Keller executed the Certificates of Election to Carlton McComb and Gene E. Sanders. Meeting Recessed 7:50 P. M..- Reconvened 8.05 P. M. Mayor Keller introduced Judge Paul F. Ferguson, District Judge of the 149 Judicial District of Texas. Judge Ferguson administered the Oath of Office to Carlton McComb, duly elected Mayor of the City of Pearland and Gene E. Sanders, duly elected Councilman Posifl ori/Place 3 of the City of Pearland. Mayor McComb read a prepared statement thanking the people who supported him during the Run -Off Election, and thanked Dan Keller for service to the City. Mayor McComb introduced Resolution No. 72-8 commending former Mayor Keller for his service to the City. It was moved by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Wasek that Resolution No. 72-8 be passed, approved and adopted. Voting "aye" - Councilman Frank, Councilman Wasek, Councilman Sanders, Councilman DeShazer, and Councilman Griffin. Voting "no None Motion passed 5 to 0. A plaque was presented to Mr. Keller along with the Resolution and gavel by Mayor McComb. ADJOURN: It was moved by Councilman DeShazer, seconded by Councilman Frank that the meeting adjourn.
