1972-04-03 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES44 MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON APRIL 3, 1972, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, IN THE CITY HALL, 2335 N. TEXAS AVENUE. PEARLAND. TEXAS AT :45 P. M. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Keller with the following present: Mayor D. R. Keller Councilman Cecil W. Griffin Councilman �E-. A. Wasek Councilman Carlton McComb Councilman James 0. DeShazer Councilman Benny J. Frank City Manager William E. Wolff City Attorney Bobby J. Williams INVOCATION & PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The invocation was given by Dr. Forrest Hawkins, Council Chaplain. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by City Attorney Bobby J. Williams. PROCLAMATION: Mayor Keller proclaimed the week of April 9th through April 15, 1972 as P11RPOSF OF THF MFFTTNG: "Friends of the Library Week in Pearland" 1. Official canvass of City Officers' Election held on April 1, 1972 and any other business pertinent thereto. Sanders 6A 061 131 235 427 William Gonzales 7A 060 093 202 355 Total Number of Votes Cast 1108 The following Resolution was read in full by Mayor Keller: RESOLUTION NO. 72-5 RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING. RESULTS OF CITY OFFICERS' ELECTION HELD ON APRIL 1, 1972. Whereas, there came to be considered the returns of an election held on the 1st 45 day of April 1972, for the purpose of electing the hereinafter named officials, and it appearing from said returns, duly and legally made, that there were cast at said election 1108 valid and legal votes; that each of the candidates in said election received the following votes: FOR MAYOR C. Albert Rains Received 174 votes Dan R. Keller Received 324 votes Jack E. Farmer Received 241 votes Carlton McComb Received 365 votes FOR COUNCILMAN; POSITION/PLACE 3 C. Earle Maxwell Received 313 votes Gene E. Sanders Received 427 votes William Gonzales Received 355 votes as shown in the official returns- heretofore submitted to this City Council and duly filed with the City Secretary; and WHEREAS, said election was called and held in all respects under the strict conformity with applicable constitutional and statutory provisions; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: That said election was duly called; that notice of said election was given in accordance with law, and that said election was held in accordance with law and that Article 5, Section 5.06 - Election by Majority of the Home Rule Charter of the City of Pearland, Texas, shall apply to this election. It is further found and determined that in accordance with 'the order of this governing body the City Secretary posted written notice of the date, place and subject of this meeting on the bulletin board located in the City Hall, a place convenient to the public, and said notice having been so posted and remaining posted continuously for at least three days preceding the date of this meeting. A copy of the return of said posting shall be attached to the minutes of this meeting and shall be made a part thereof for all intents and purposes. It was moved by Councilman DeShazer, seconded by Councilman Frank that Resolution No. 72-5 be passed, adopted and approved. Voting "aye Councilman Griffin, Councilman DeShazer, Councilman McComb, Councilman Wasek, and Councilman Frank. Voting "no - None Motion passed 5 to 0. ADJOURN: It was moved by Councilman McComb, seconded by Councilman DeShazer that the meeting adjourn. Motion passed 5 to 0 Meeting adjourned 8:00 P. M.
