ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
September 18, 2024
The Animal Shelter Advisory Committee convened in a meeting on Wednesday, September 18,
2024, at the Shari D. Coleman Pearland Animal Shelter and Adoption Center Training Room,
8311 Freedom Drive, Pearland Texas. The following represents the actions taken by Animal
Shelter Advisory Committee in the order they occurred during the meeting.
I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 5:32 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL AND CERTIFICATION OF QUORUM:
Present—Chairperson DVM Catherine Cupples—Position 1, Patrick Savage— Position 2,
Joshua Craft— Position 3, Amy Stroud — Position 4, and Vice Chairperson Mary Hickling
— Position 5. All members present.
CITIZEN COMMENTS:
1. John Fischer — spoke regarding his intent to remain a vocal advocate for
Animal Services and its ongoing mission.
2. Heather Baker - spoke regarding "Paws for Pearland", a group created to
support the Animal Shelter; the group has an active application to achieve
501c-3 nonprofit status.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Discussion and possible action regarding minutes from the June 19, 2024 meeting.
Motion to accept by Member Savage, Seconded by Member Stroud. Unanimous vote
to approve.
IV. DISCUSSION ITEMS
1. Introduction of new Animal Services Manager, Joshua Craft.
2. Shelter status update by Asst. Chief Savage.

Rabies Update: 1 confirmed positive rabies test result in the City for the period
with no human or animal exposure.
Volunteer Program: Volunteer hours for the period totaled 322. The goal is to
host orientations monthly. The adoption trailer was also recently serviced and
inspected by fleet to ensure proper function and reliability. Our 2nd annual Hallo-
Woof event will be held at the shelter on 10/20/24 and is in the final planning
phase now with most of the objectives and items in place.
Staffing: We have two open Animal Services Supervisor positions and one open
Animal Control Officer position with the potential for an additional Animal
Control Officer position with the new budget in October.
Training: 2 ACOs currently in the first phase of training. 2 ACOs are
completing the second and third training phases.
Social Media: Our Facebook page is up to 18,114 followers. We have slowed
down on our Instagram account for the time being to focus on our Facebook and
make the most of our posts and audience there.
Foster Program: The Foster function in our animal services software,
Chameleon, is now live with the current staff trained on it. We currently have 1
dog in foster at Pearland Barkway and 0 animals in foster homes."
V. ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Member Hickling, Seconded by Member Stroud.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:52 p.m.
