HomeMy WebLinkAbout20251022 Animal Shelter Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING October 22, 2025 The Animal Shelter Advisory Committee convened in a meeting on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Shari D. Coleman Pearland Animal Shelter and Adoption Center Training Room, 8311 Freedom Drive, Pearland Texas. The following represents the actions taken by Animal Shelter Advisory Committee in the order they occurred during the meeting. I. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 5:36 p.m. II. ROLL CALL AND CERTIFICATION OF QUORUM: Present—Chairperson DVM Catherine Cupples—Position 1, Patrick Savage— Position 2, Vice Chairperson Amy Stroud — Position 3, Joshua Craft— Position 4, and Mary Hickling — Position 5. CITIZEN COMMENTS: None. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consideration and possible action regarding minutes from the July 23, 2025 meeting. Motion to accept by Member Hickling, Seconded by Member Stroud. Unanimous vote to approve. IV. DISCUSSION ITEMS 1. Staff Report from Animal Services Manager Joshua Craft: "Statistics for 07/22/25-10/21/25 Cats Dogs Total Intake 149 88 237 Animal Shelter Advisory Committee—October 22, 2025 Adoptions 110 50 160 Transferred 12 0 12 to Rescue Returned to 9 33 42 Owners Euthanasia 4 6 10 Live Release 97.3% 93.1% 95.7% Rate Rabies Update: 1 confirmed positive rabies test result in the City for the period with no human or animal exposure. Volunteer Program: Volunteer hours for the period totaled 1023.85 between the shelter, events, and offsite enrichment. That is a drop of only 60 hours with school back in session. Staffing: We are currently fully staffed. Training: 1 ACO currently in Phase 2, 1 ACO currently in Phase 3,and 3 ACO simultaneously completing Phase 1. Surgeries: Our first official in-house surgeries took place on 09/22. Surgeries are performed all day on Mondays every week and so far, across 5 surgery days, a total of 21 spay/neuter procedures have been successfully completed. Social Media: Our Facebook page is up to 21,293 followers. In the last 90 days,the shelter's page had 1,744,424 views and 49,101 content interactions.With our Facebook becoming more stable,the shelters Instagram page is being utilized more with content added there as well. Foster Program: We currently have 3 dogs in Foster To Adopt, and 6 kittens in Foster To Adopt. 2 dogs will be going to Foster at Pearland Barkway and 2 cats will be going to the adoption condos at Pearland Petco by the end of this week. Events: We partnered with the Pearland Citizens Fire Academy who utilized our adoptable animals in their fundraiser calendar photo shoots.Through our partnership with PetcoLove they paid the fees associated with the organization Dogs Playing For Life to come to our shelter 10/08-10/10 and put on extensive training to help make our dogs more adoptable Continued on back- We have partnered with Pearland ISD and attend varsity football home games with adoptable dogs at PHS and Dawson home games for the season.We were invited to attend a construction expo at George R. Brown Convention Center 10/15-0/16 where 2 of the dogs showcased were adopted. Our 3rd Annual Hallo-Woof event was held at the shelter on 10/19 and was a great success with attendance of more than 250 people and 2 adoptions as a result already."
