A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, ordering the May
2, 2026 Special Election for the purpose of electing one (1) Councilmember by
position, from the City at-large, for Councilmember Position Two (2), to serve for
the remainder of the term, to be canceled; declaring the unopposed candidate for
Councilmember, Position Two (2) as duly elected; and providing for other related
matters related thereto.
Whereas, on February 9, 2026, the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, adopted
Resolution No. 2026-36 ordering a Special Election be held on May 2, 2026, for the purpose of
electing one (1) Councilmember by position, from the City at-large, for Councilmember, Position
two (2) for the remainder of the term; and
Whereas, the deadlines for filing applications for a place on the ballot, or for a place on
the list of write-in candidates, for the position for which the special election was to be held have
all expired; and
Whereas, Section 2.053 of the Election Code provides that a municipality may cancel an
election for councilmembers if each candidate whose name is to appear on the ballot is
unopposed and no proposition is to appear on the ballot; and
Whereas, the City Secretary has certified to the City Council, in writing, that: Tommy
Echols is unopposed for election to Councilmember Position No. 2.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
Section 1. The facts and matters set forth in the preamble of this Resolution are
hereby found to be true and correct.
Section 2. The Special Municipal Election scheduled for the 2nd day of May 2026, for
this position is hereby cancelled.
Section 3. The following unopposed candidate have been certified as unopposed
and are declared elected:

Tommy Echols Councilmember Position No. 2
Section 4. That a copy of this Resolution will be posted on Election Day at the
polling place that would have been used for the election, as required by the Election Code.
Section 5. That a certification of election will be issued to each candidate in the
same manner and at the same time as provided for a candidate elected at the election, as
required by the Election Code.
Section 6. The meeting at which this Resolution was approved was a regular
meeting of the City Council, and in all things, was conducted in strict compliance with the Texas
Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code, Chapter 551.
Section 7. This Resolution shall become effective from and after its passage.
