HomeMy WebLinkAbout20250723 Animal Shelter Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes Animal Shelter Advisory Committee – July 23, 2025 CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING July 23, 2025 The Animal Shelter Advisory Committee convened in a meeting on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the Shari D. Coleman Pearland Animal Shelter and Adoption Center Training Room, 8311 Freedom Drive, Pearland Texas. The following represents the actions taken by Animal Shelter Advisory Committee in the order they occurred during the meeting. I. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 5:34 p.m. II. ROLL CALL AND CERTIFICATION OF QUORUM: Present – Chairperson DVM Catherine Cupples – Position 1, Patrick Savage – Position 2, Joshua Craft – Position 4, and Mary Hickling – Position 5. Absent - Position 3, Vice Chairperson Amy Stroud. CITIZEN COMMENTS: None. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consideration and possible action regarding minutes from the April 23, 2025 meeting. Motion to accept by Member Savage, Seconded by Member Hickling. Unanimous vote to approve. IV. DISCUSSION ITEMS 1. Staff Report from Animal Services Manager Joshua Craft: “Statistics for 04/23/25-07/22/25 Intake 177 115 292 Adoptions 93 52 145 Transferred to Rescue 4 6 10 Returned to Owners 4 50 54 Euthanasia 22 1 23 Live Release Rate 87.5% 99.1% 92.1% Rabies Update: 0 confirmed positive rabies test result in the City for the period with no human or animal exposure. Animal Shelter Advisory Committee – July 23, 2025 Volunteer Program: Volunteer hours for the period totaled 1082.15 between the shelter, events, and offsite enrichment. Staffing: 2 new ACO attended New Employee Experience last week and started at the shelter this week. We have offers extended to 2 more candidates for the remaining open ACO positions. The position for the open Animal Services Supervisor position will be posted soon. Training: 1 ACO currently in Phase 4, 2 ACO simultaneously in Phase 1 Training. Social Media: Our Facebook page is up to 20,729 followers. In the last 90 days, the shelter’s page had 2,365,970 views and 89,993 content interactions. We have been receiving a lot more positive feedback from citizens on the quality and quantity of our posts. Foster Program: We currently have 2 dogs in Foster at Pearland Barkway, 4 kittens in foster to adopt, and 4 bottle baby kittens with trained Fosters. Events: We attended the Houston World Series of Dogs Show at NRG from 07/16- 07/20. We showcased 1 dog at the event each day and 2 had been adopted before the event concluded due to the added exposure. 7 adoption applications during the show listed the event as how they heard about us, so its positive effect was felt immediately. We continue to partner with the Sugarland Space Cowboys for Waggin Wednesday events to showcase adoptable dogs and gain exposure for the shelter. In our partnership with PetcoLove we are scheduled to attend Mega Adopt at NRG in August with many dogs and cats from the shelter up for adoption. Our Programs Coordinator continues to strive to build new relationships and partnerships to help facilitate getting the animals in our care adopted into loving homes.” Motion to adjourn by Member Savage, seconded by Member Hickling at 5:44 p.m. Minutes approved as submitted and/or corrected this 23rd day of July, 2025.
