HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-05-14 WRECKER SERVICES MINUTES Page 1 of 2 – 5/14/2008 MINUTES OF A PUBLIC HEARING BY THE DIRECTOR OF WRECKER SERVICES OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 2008, AT 1:00 P.M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY HALL, 3519 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND, TEXAS. Police Chief J.C. Doyle called the public hearing to order at 1:00 p.m. with the following present: Chief of Police J.C. Doyle Police Officer – Traffic Division Troy Mashue City Secretary Young Lorfing PURPOSE OF HEARING – APPLICATION FOR WRECKER PERMIT To consider the application submitted by John Holland Davis representing Holland’s Wrecker Service to determine the existence of a public convenience and necessity requesting a position on the Pearland Police Emergency Wrecker Rotation. John Holland Davis representing Holland’s Wrecker Service. DIRECTOR’S REVIEW OF APPLICATION FOR WRECKER REQUESTING A POSITION ON THE PEARLAND POLICE EMERGENCY WRECKER ROTATION. Mr. J.C. Doyle, Chief of Police and Director of Wrecker Services. Chief of Police and Director of Wrecker Services J.C. Doyle stated this hearing provides the City of Pearland opportunity to receive comments from the public regarding the wrecker rotation list. This will be factored in along with a determination of necessity of an added rotation slot on the rotation list. Mr. John Holland Davis applicant for Holland’s Wrecker Service addressed Chief Doyle and stated he was a long-time resident of Pearland and is an experienced wrecker driver and business owner within the community. Mr. Davis illustrated through his presentation, the growth of Pearland within the past two years and presented his capacity for storage of vehicles in comparison with other wrecker services. Concluding his presentation, Mr. Davis showed a comparison with several other cities similar in size to Pearland’s recent growth, and his determination of the need to keep the citizens of Pearland safe. CITIZEN COMMENTS: Javier Flores, Landon’s Wrecker Service, addressed Chief Doyle and stated he was against another wrecker service being added to the rotation because, in his opinion, there was not enough need in the community. Page 2 of 2 – 5/14/2008 Randy McCullough, Randee’s Wrecker Service, addressed Chief Doyle and stated he was against another wrecker service being added to the rotation. He stated that Mr. John Holland Davis had been on the rotation before and had not remained in that position. Brian Williams, Red’s Wrecker Service, addressed Chief Doyle and stated he was against another wrecker service being added to the rotation. Mr. Williams stated that there was not enough need in the community and Holland’s Wrecker Service had been on the rotation previously and had given up the opportunity to remain. After public comments were received Chief Doyle adjourned the public hearing.
