Rabies Update: 1 confirmed positive rabies test result in the City for the period with
no human or animal exposure. We continue to work towards gathering and uploading
rabies testing data into a GIS Map in a manner consistent with policies.
Volunteer Program: Volunteer hours for the period are still being processed due to
some volunteers remaining logged in after leaving without notifying staff. This has
proven to be a valuable learning experience and allowed us to implement new
practices to ensure more accurate volunteer timekeeping moving forward.
Staffing: We have one open Animal Control Officer position with viable candidates
and interviews in the coming weeks.
Training: 1 ACO currently in Phase 1, 1 ACO currently in Phase 2, with 2 ACO
simultaneously in Phase 4 Training.
Social Media: Our Facebook page is now up to 18,555 followers. We have been
working with the city communications department to film and post quality content in
the form of Reels and community education posts. We have had more of an emphasis
on live videos to engage the public and showcase longer term animals as well.
Foster Program: We currently have 2 dogs in foster at Pearland Barkway and 0
animals in foster homes. There are 14 underage animals in Foster To Adopt
households currently.
Events: We attended Bay Area Farmers Market for the first time with great success
and plan to attend again in February. We have also been invited by Galveston Island
Humane Society to participate in The Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Parade in March.”
Motion to adjourn by Member Stroud, seconded by Member Craft.
Minutes approved as submitted and/or corrected this 29th day of January, 2025.
