CALL TO ORDER: President Dillie called the meeting to order at 7:06 pm.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
• Copies of the minutes of the previous meeting were distributed to the group.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT
• Margaret called for volunteers to work on a donation basket for the County Library
System Foundation Dinner
• Terry Ruiz circulated a flyer about the dinner. She noted that the theme for this year's
basket is Texas/western. Baskets are due by noon on October 1511 Terry volunteered to
pick up Pearland Friends basket and bring it to the event. Terry added that the most
popular baskets are those that appeal to seniors. The County Library general funds will
receive the proceeds. Very like these monies will go toward buying new computers.
• Sylvia made a motion the Friends group allow up to $100.00 for the donation basket.
Josephine seconded the motion. No discussion. Motion passed unanimously

Margaret said she would get a basket for the group to fill. Terry suggested each person
supply an item. A discussion about possible items followed. An email will be sent to
the Friends group and Book Club calling for basket item donations.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Viki Murray, Treasurer reviewed her reported which covered April 1, 2014 to August 28,
2014.
• Total income for period $3,457.65
• Total expenses for period ($1,924.66)
• Pearland State Bank statement for period ending 8/28/14: Balance $20,401.67
• .Viki reported that Texas states sales tax for 2013 is paid.
• Viki has followed up on a letter received by the Friends group from the IRS. The letter
had requested a response as to why no report was filed in 2012. The IRS is satisfied the it
was an honest error. The 2013 report is completed. May 15 h is the annual deadline. See
attached documentation.
• Viki raised the question as to whether or not January -December is the fiscal year Sylvia
will send an email to Mona Fluitt and the teasurer of the Westside Branch for further
clarification.
• A discussion as to whether or not we need to pay sales tax for book sales ensued.
Fuither research is needed.
BRANCH LIBRARIAN REPORT
Andrew Fearn, Pearland Branch Librarian
• November 3-8 is the door count.
• Andrew requested a $200.00 contribution toward catering expenses for the all county
staff develepment on October 13th at the County Library. Fern made a motion to allow
$200.00 for catering expenses for the County staff training event. Michele seconded the
motion. No discussion. Passed unanimously.
• Andrew requested reimbursement to Andrew Fearn, Kristen Stewart and Jennifer Trusty
for their Texas Library Association dues. Fern made a motion to provide up to $500.00
for reimbursement to the librarians for their TLA dues. Margaret seconded the motion.
No discussion Passed unanimously..
• Andrew requested a check for $195 00 payble to Jennifer Trusty, Librarian for
reimbursement of her expenses at the YALSA conference.
• The county has brought six new projectors, so Pearland library will not need to request
funds to buy a replacement projector for the one which is no longer working.
• The previous discussion of the Friends funding a new laptop for the use of the librarian
was raised. Andrew stated that this not a need at this time.
• Gulf Coast Reads selection is Remembering Ben Clayton by Stephen Harrigan. See
attached brochure. Branch discussion dates are October 13 at 6:30pm and October 22 at
2pm.

A proposed program to be presented by an author on sculpture is on hold.
Summer programs went well.
Next Friends meeting date set for January 12th a 7pm.
COUNTY LIBRARIAN
David Thrash, Director Brazoria County Library Services
Terry Ruiz reported in David's absence
• Budget previously cut by 65% has been increased by 25%.
• County has two new data bases: Newsbank and Flipster
• Circulation is up 6%.
• Westside branch has greater circulation than Pearland branch. Attributed to greater
amount of new residents on the west side of Pearland..
• GALE which is a free online instruction needs to be promoted.
MEMBERSHIP
• No report.
OLD BUSINESS
• Library brochures: Margaret is pursuing updating Friends brochurs.
• The Friends purchased a copy of Leaving Everything Most Loved by Jacqueline
Winspear in memory of Rosemary Bruner. There is currently a balance of $46.00
remains. It was suggested a second book be purchased. Fern will consult with Kristen
Stewart, Librarian for suggested titles by author Alexander McCall Smith. Sylvia
made a motion to purchase the latest Alexande McCall Smith novel in memory of
Rosemary Bruner with memorial funds. Fern seconded the motion. No discussion.
Passed unanimously.
• Margaret is still looking into updating the Friends brochure.

Several OLD BUSINESS items were addressed earlier in the meeting to include:
1. IRS letter
2. Donation basket
3. Replacement projector /computer
4. Author program re: sculpture
5. Reimbursement to Jennifer Trusty for YALSA expenses.
NEW BUSINESS
• Fern expressed concern about a possible lapse of book donations during the closing of
the library during renovations. She would like make an appeal for donations to be
squirreled away until reopening. Terry suggest Fern contact her husband Ray Ruiz
about writing a related article in the Pearland Journal.
• Sylvia read a thank you note from the family of Rosemary Bruner.
