I. CALL TO ORDER
In attendance:
Kaitlyn Keever (Librarian), Melissa Salnave (Librarian), Crystal Carbone,
Tammy McLain, Somarajan Nair, Paula Franklin, Vanessa Wilkerson Dunn,
Monica Montoya(City of Pearland)
Absent: Lisa Loranc (Director of Brazoria County Library System)
Guests: Carol Krentze (Westside Library Friends Group President)
Chair Crystal Carbone called the meeting to order at 6:59pm
II. CONSENT AGENDA:
The consent agenda was approved including:
A. Minutes from the July 19, 2018 regular meeting.
B. Budget Reports

III. NEW BUSINESS
1. CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION: Tammy McLain
appointed Vice Chair and Vanessa Wilkerson Dunn appointed Secretary,
passed unanimously.
2. CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION: Brazoria County Library
System Directors Report reviewed. No action taken.
3. CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION: Branch Librarian reports
reviewed and discussed at length.
Discussed success with Makerspace rebranding and sewing classes.
More classes for adults and exploring the option of drop in. Staff also
expressed interest in offering crocheting. Board game check out going

extremely well. There has been great response! Exploring the option of
offering other options, i.e. camping gear.
Discussed ongoing communication concerns between the city and county
library staff in regards to concerns with renovation completion, signage,
lighting repairs and maintenance. Safety at the Pearland Library continues to
be a concern because of poor lighting surrounding the building. The board
discussed the recommendation of limiting library hours until lighting concerns
are addressed. More follow up between directors and check in with status. All
parties agreed that a better paper trail of when repairs are done is needed, and
improving lines of communication in regard to repairs/status updates is also
underway. Monthly meetings between city staff and county library staff to be
scheduled to assist in approving these areas of concern.
4. CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION: Reports from branch
Friends groups. No representation from Pearland Library Friends Group.
Kaitlyn Keever (Pearland Librarian) stated that its Friends Group started
selling flash drive at front desk; researching the option of selling earbuds at a
later date. Requesting book donations for ongoing Friends group book sale.
Westside Friends Group President Carol Krentze discussed Trick or Treat
Trail-Halloween Carnival upcoming. Possible solicitation of commemorative
bricks for new library being considered as a fundraising effort for the new
library.
5. CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION: Updates on Building
projects: Design project projected over 18 months. Bid will be released May
2020. August 2020 Construction begins with projected completion February
2022.

No issues discussed for future agendas.
