MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND PARKS, RECREATION
AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD, HELD ON MONDAY, AUGUST 15, 1994, AT
7:00 P.M. , AT THE PEARLAND COMMUNITY CENTER, 3523 LIBERTY DRIVE,
PEARLAND TEXAS.
The meeting was called to order at 7 :00 p.m. , with the following
present:

Tootie McComb Board Member
Bob Pond Board Member
D. A. Miller Council Liaison
Ed Hersh Parks & Recreation Director
Sherry Reed Parks & Recreation Secretary
Absent from the meeting were Board Members Retta Absher and
Gary Walters.
Two guests were present from the Banberry Cross Homeowner's
Association, Dave Billicki and John Dustin.
/APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Bob Pond made a motion to accept the minutes of the June 20, 1994
Board Meeting as presented. Jim Skipper seconded the motion.
Motion passed 6 - 0, with Tootie McComb abstaining as she was
absent from that meeting.
STAFF REPORTS:
Centennial Park Project- Ed Hersh reported that the Drainage
District is working on the excavation of the fishing pond. Due to
the fact that this work will take longer than expected, the bidding
process has been put on hold until the Drainage District gets
closer to completing their portion of the work.

PARK BOARD CHAIRMAN'S REPORT:
None.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
I. Centennial Parade Update
Bari Scherrer reported that she and Retta had two
instructors with students to march in the parade. One of
the instructors has offered her convertible to ride in
front of, or behind the Parks entry. Bari also reported that
First Impressions Signs will donate a 3' x 10' banner to be
carried in the parade. Discussion was held on who would
carry the banner.

COMMUNICATIONS:

DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
Fall Brochure - Ed Hersh reported the fall brochures have been
mailed out to the Pearland area. Registration for fall classes
will begin on Saturday, August 27, 1994. Ed stated that he is
looking forward to a productive fall program.
Summer Attendance - Ed Hersh discussed the enrollment for the
summer programs. Summer classes had 1 ,007 participants, compared
to 193 participants for 1993 . Learn-to-Swim had 583 participants
with no comparison to 1993 as 1994 was the first year for a City
LTS program.
Extended Season for Pool - Ed Hersh announced the extended season
for the pool will start Friday, August 19 , 1994 , as this is when
Pearland schools start. The hours for Monday - Friday will be
4:00 - 8:00 P.M. , and Saturday - Sunday 1:00 - 6:00 P.M.

Water Retention Park - Ed Hersh reported that the City has done
detention studies and is in the process of buying land near Beltway
8 near Clear Creek, adjacent to El Franco Lee Park. The City will
sell soil to the Toll Road authorities to help with the funds in
the development of this land.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Bob Pond inquired if the Planning and Zoning Commission has
approved the proposed update to the Park Master Plan. Bob stated
that he felt action needed to be taken so that long term projects
can be started.
ADJOURNMENT:
Nell Fuller made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was
seconded by Michelle Lilie.
Motion approved, 7 - 0.
The next meeting is scheduled for the third Monday in September,
(9-19-94) .
Meeting adjourned at 7: 35 P.M.
