1979-12-11 CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC HEARING MEETING MINUTESMINUTES OF A PUBLIC HEARING HELD BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS AT 7:30 P.M., DECEMBER 11, 1979, IN THE CITY HALL, 2335 N. TEXAS AVENUE, PEARLAND, TEXAS. The Hearing was called to order with the following present: Mayor Pro Tem Councilman Councilman Councilman Assistant City Manager City Secretary Dennis Frauenberger Charles Mack Carlton McComb Morris Wilson Ronald Wicker Dorothy L. Cook Absent: Mayor Tom Reid, Councilwoman Fran Coppinger, and City Attorney Bobby J. Williams. PUBLIC HEARING NO. I: Land Use Change Application No. 74, George H. Owens, Sr., and wife, Ruby Owens. Multi -Family to General Business on 1.599 acres of land out of Lot 5, of the Allison -Richey Gulf Coast Homes Suburban Garden Subdivision, Abstract, 232, Brazoria County, Texas. PERSONS WISHING TO SPEAK FOR THE REQUESTED CHANGE: George H. Owens, Jr., 2308 Austin Street, appeared on behalf of his father, George H. Owens, Sr., advising that he and his father wish to expand the business that they are presently engaged which is racing and custom equipment for automobiles. Nonny Walker, 2418 Dixie Farm Road, spoke for the change. John Garner, Engineer -- and owner of property adjoining this requested change, spoke for it. Jenkins Subdivision, Abstract 70, Brazoria County, Texas. PERSONS WISHING TO SPEAK FOR THE REQUESTED CHANGE: C. F. The above individuals spoke against granting an R-2 Classification for this property due to size of lots. They felt that an R-1 Classification would be more compatible to the area. QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD: The Council discussed with Mr. Mann the possibility of R-1, larger lots, in this area, and Mr. Mann advised that he was willing to make the lots adjacent to Longwood Park 80 x 110 feet which would make the total lots 294 in this subdivision rather than 300; however, he did not feel it was feasible to make the entire tract R-1 due to the shape of this tract.
