DAVID DAVIS Reporter News Staff The Friendswood Mustangs scored all their runs before inclement weath- er postponed their home game against Manvel to Saturday, and then cruised the rest of the way to a run- rule win. Friendswood (20-2-2, 8-0) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and seven more in the bottom of the second before the weather delay occurred in the top of the third. The Mustangs finished with 12 base hits, led by multi-hit games from Baylor Resnick (2-for-2, two RBIs, one run, home run, double) and Boots Landry (2-for-2, two runs). Friendswood also blasted four home runs during the run-rule short- ened game, with one apiece from Resnick (solo), Collin Goolsby (inside-the-park, two-run), Dawson Hinson (solo) and Dane Perry (three- run). Four Mustangs pitchers combined to throw a five-inning, one hit shutout: Kyle Lockhart (2.2 innings, one hit, two walks, three strikeouts), Jacob Smith (win, 0.1 innings, one strikeout), Ray Vazquez (one inning, one strikeout) and Houston Rhodes (one inning, one strikeout). No. 1 state-ranked Friendswood blanks Manvel 11-0 By DR. DAVID DAVIS Reporter News Staff Pearland traveled to Alvin to face the Lady Yellowjackets in a District 23-6A showdown and left victorious with a 5-0 shutout to stay at the top of the league standings. The Lady Oilers took advantage of five errors by Alvin to score all five runs in the first two frames and then shut out the Lady Jackets the rest of the game with Abigail Gutierrez in the pitching circle. Guitierrez allowed two hits, no runs, four strikeouts, and walked only one to get the win. Pearland scored three runs in the first inning when Hailey Golden sin- gled past the first baseman and moved to second on a walk to Kaylee Schweitzer. Kennedy Drafton fol- lowed with a single to left field to load the bases. After the Alvin pitcher got two Lady Oilers to strike out, Lydia Njus got hit by a pitch to plate Golden to make the score 1-0 in favor of Pearland. Trinity Perry also was hit by a pitch to score Schweitzer to make the score 2-0 to keep the bases loaded. Kelsey Martin worked the Alvin pitcher for a walk to bring in Drafton for a 3-0 before the next Pearland batter would strike out to end the inning with only one hit. The Lady Oilers would increase the lead in the top of the second to 5- 0 when Schweitzer got a one-out sin- gle, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single to cen- terfield by Drafton. Kristyn Whitlock got a two-out single and Raenna Liscano, who had reached base with a walk, scored when she stole home for a 5-0 advan- tage. That would be the end of the scor- ing as Pearland improved to 25-3 overall and 7-1 in district. Leading hitters for Pearland included Hailey Golden (1-for-4, 1 run), Schweitzer (1-for-2, 2 runs), and Drafton (2-for-2, 1 run, 1 RBI).
