1980-05-20 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTESMINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON MAY 20th, 1980, at 7:30 P. M. IN THE CITY HALL, 2335 NORTH TEXAS AVENUE, PEARLAND, TEXAS: The meeting was called to order with the following present: Mayor Tom Reid Councilman Al Lentz Councilman Charles R. Mack Councilwoman Fran Coppinger Councilman Carlton McComb Councilman Terry Gray City Manager William E. Wolff Assistant City Secretary Barbara J. Lenamon City Attorney Bobby J. Williams was absent. PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: AUTHORIZATION FOR THE TAX ASSESSOR -COLLECTOR TO FILE SUITS REGARDING DELINQUENT TAX ACCOUNTS OF LESS THAN TWO (2) YEARS: A discussion was held between Tax Assessor -Collector James 0. DeShazer and the City Council regarding delinquent tax accounts. Mr. DeShazer stated that some of the delinquent accounts were less than two years old, however, the City would not incur the expense of these suits, as this is passed directly on to the taxpayers. It was moved by Councilman McComb, seconded by Councilman Gray that the Tax Assessor -Collector Jim DeShazer be authorized to file suit to collect all Taxes whenever they become delinquent, and that this motion stay in effect until a future City Council revokes the motion. Motion passed 4 to 1. Councilwoman Coppinger opposed. CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION: REVIEW OF BIDS RECEIVED ON BID NO. B80-5 POLICE PATROL VEHICLE AND POSSIBLE AWARD OF BID: Mr. Wolff stated that the bids were opened on May 16, 1980. He said that there was one bid from River Oaks Chrysler Plymouth that would qualify. We reQeived another bid from North Town Chry_sler.Plymouth, however, we have since learned that the car is not available at this time. BID FROM RIVER OAKS CHRYSLER PLYMOUTH - $7,372.38. City Manager Wolff advised the City Council that the insurance settlement plus the amount of the judgment against the individual responsible for the accident will almost equal the cost of this new car. It was moved by Councilman Gray, seconded by Councilman Lentz that River Oaks Chrysler Plymouth be awarded the bid of $7,372.38 for the purpose of the pur- chase of a Police Patrol Vehicle. Motion passed 5 to 0. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:57 P. M. Minutes approved as read and/or corrected this the_day A. D. 1980. ATTEST: Mayor City Secretary
