V UPDATE ON ANIMAL SERVICES CURRENT FOSTER CARE PROGRAM — Fischer
shared there is not currently a great need for fosters, we have a few animals in foster,
but with low cat intake, it hasn't been needed. We are now using the Chameleon
software for tracking, which is a big help. Feels confident we are ready to use Fosters
should the need arise.
VI. STAFF REPORT FROM ANIMAL SERVICES MANAGER
In the period this report covers, 5 months, we saw an almost 30% increase in intakes compared
to the same period last year. Addressing staffing shortfalls continue to be an area of focus. We
are starting to see an increase in the number of cats and dogs being adopted compared to the
same period last year which is encouraging Below are the figures for key metrics.

Rabies Update: 2 bats confirmed positive for rabies in the city for the period. One at Turner
High School and one at a business near 288 and Beltway 8.
Volunteer Program: Our volunteer program continues to become more robust. Volunteers
logged 924 hours for the period. Once we have moved into the shelter, I am optimistic we can
resume off site adoption events.
S taffing: We have filled the last open Animal Control Officer position with a start date of May 1,
2022. We have two open Shelter Attendant positions. One candidate is in background, and we
hope to interview to fill the second position in early May.
Training: On March 1, 2022, I was fortunate to be a guest instructor for the Basic Animal
Control Officer Course presented by The Texas Department of State Health Services April 26-
28 we are hosting The Humane Educators of Texas who are presenting an Advanced Animal
Control Officer course. Three of our staff are attending with fifteen other students coming from
surrounding agencies. All current staff members have passed their State administered test and
are certified as Animal Control Officers
S ocial Media: We have just over 13.5k followers of our Facebook page. We are exploring
expanding out social media presence to other platforms.
Foster Program: Currently we have four cats and one dog in foster. At the creation of this
report the shelter only has 3 cats available for adoption so the need for cat fosters is limited at
this stage. The number of dogs available for adoption is currently 22. Our average length of stay
for cats is 14.26 days and 9.13 days for dogs. Focus continues to be on recruiting fosters so
that when the intake numbers increase, we are prepared. Foster module for Chameleon
software online and functioning.
S tatus Update for Shari D. Coleman Animal Shelter and Adoption Center: We are nearing
the end of construction. Final walk throughs and inspections set for first week in May with a goal
of having a Grand Opening in early June.
