AN ORDINANCE DECLARING RESULT OF ETECTION FOR LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX, ORDERING THAT SAID TAX BE IMPOSED, INSTRUCTING CITY SECRETARY TO FORWARD CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS ORDINANCE AND MAP TO COMPTROLLER OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS, AND SUSPENDING RULES_.REQUIRING ORDINANCE TO BE READ UPON THREE SEPARATE DAYS o . BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section to There came on to be considered the Returns of an election held on the 6th day of April, 1968, upon the question of the adoption of a local sales and use tax for the benefit of said City in accordance with the provisions of House Bill No. 207, 60th Legislature, Regular Session, 1967, and it appearing that said election was in all respects legally held and that said Returns were duly and legally made and that there were cast at said election 886 votes, of which number 515 votes were cast "FOR adoption of a one per cent (1%) local sales and use tax within the City," and 371 votes were cast "AGAINST adoption of a one per cent (1%) local sales .and use t:xwithin__the City," and said question or proposition having been approved by 144. votes Section II. The majority of the qualified voters having voted for the adoption of sa''3 local sales and use tax, the said tax is hereby imposed in said City and shall become effective as provided in said House Bill 207, and the City Secretary is hereby instructed to forward to the Comptrol].er of Public Accounts, State Capitol, Austin, 2 MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD IN SAID CITY HALL ANNEX ON APRIL 11, 196b AT 7:30 P.M. A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland was called to order by Mayor Keller with the following present: Mayor D. R. Keller Councilman Gene E. Sanders Councilman E. A. Wasek Councilman Dale Watson Councilman A. G. Ellis Councilman B. J. Courtright City Administrator and City Secretary Jerry D. Henderson Chaplain James Matlock Fiscal Agent Neat Eddleman INVOCATION: The Invocation was given by Rev. D. 0. Foster, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Pearland, Texas. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: It was moved by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Ellis that the minutes of regular meeting held March 28, 1968 be approved. Motion passed 5 to 0. CANVASSING RESULTS OF BOND ELECTION: Mayor Keller introduced Mrs. Josie Heflin and Mrs. Jack Miller, the Election Judge and Assistant Election Judge, and read the following results of the bond election which was confirmed by the Election Judges present. BOND ETRCTION HELD APRIL 6, 1968: PROPOSITION NO. ONE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF $400,000 SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM BONDS 539 votes FOR THE ISSUANCE OF $200,000 WATERWORKS SYSTEM BONDS AGAINST THE ISSUANCE OF $200,000 WATERWORKS SYSTEM BONDS PROPOSITION NO. THREE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF $125,000 MUNICIPAL AND FIRE STATION BUILDING BONDS AGAINST THE ISSUANCE OF $125,000 MUNICIPAL AND FIRE STATION BUILDING BONDS 497 votes 338 votes 579 votes 283 votes A proposed ordinance was read in full canvassing the election results. It was moved by Councilman Wasek, seconded by Councilman Ellis to adopt Ordinance No. 155 on first and final reading captioned as follows: RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF ELECTION Motion Passed 5 to CITY OFFICIAL AND SPECIAL PURPOSE ELECTION: Mayor Keller read the results of the City Official and Special Purpose Election as follows: MAYOR D. R. Kel1e: 765 votes FOR COUNCILMAN (Two) Sidney I. Barfield 222 votes Ray C. Corder 338 votes Joe T. Price 275 votes - Aubrey G. Ellis 557 votes E. A. Wasek 457 votes PROPOSITIONS 1. One percent (1%) City Sales Tax, with proceeds to be designated for use in street repair, maintenance and construction and support of the Police Department operations. 4 and defraying c,t..ts of sale or for purchas 3f other garbage disposal site. For Against 375 votes 501 votes 3. Sale of old sewer plant site: The approximate five acre, old sewer plant site, may be sold at Council discretion by publicly offered bid. Proceeds to be used to repair and maintain streets or for purchase of other garbage disposal site. For Against 414 votes 449 votes 4. Salaries - Mayor and City Council: Effective October 1, 1968, the following salaries for elected city officials will be authorized: Mayor $100.00 Monthly Councilman 75.00 Monthly For 466 votes Against 412 votes A proposed ordinance was read in full canvassing the results of the City Official and Special Purpose Election, excluding the Sales and Use Tax Election. It was moved by Councilman Watson, seconded by Councilman Sanders that Ordinance No. 156 be adopted on first and final reading captioned as follows: AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF CITY OFFICIAL AND SPECIAL PURPOSE ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, AND SUSPENDING RULES REQUIRING ORDINANCE TO BE READ UPON THREE SEPARATE DAYS.
