PEARLAND ISD WELCOMES
TEACHERS DURING THE
ANNUAL CONVOCATION
Jamison Middle School staff celebrate the beginning of a new
school year at Pearland ISD’s annual convocation on Aug. 11.
Friendswood High School was filled with excitement on
the afternoon of Tuesday, Aug. 9 as 807 Friendswood ISD
employees, including the 103 new hires, kicked off the start
of a new school year at Convocation. They were greeted by
the FHS drumline, Wranglerettes, Friendswood Junior High
cheerleaders and other student volunteers.
The event got off to a great start with a performance by the
Wranglerettes, the FHS Chamber Choir singing the National
Anthem and a group of Westwood Elementary students
leading the pledges. With support from the Friendswood
ISD Education Foundation, FISD was able to bring in guest
speaker George Couros to speak to its staff.
Per his website, Couros is an Innovative Teaching,
Learning, and Leadership Consultant and speaker. He is
the author of “The Innovator’s Mindset” and “Innovate
Inside the Box” and has over 20 years of experience as an
educator.
Addressing the audience, Couros encouraged teachers to
continue to learn and grow with ever-changing technology.
He expressed the importance of taking risks, celebrating all
forms of success and making classrooms a joyous place.
“We need to make the positives so loud, that the negatives
are almost impossible to hear,” Couros said.
Reinforcing positivity is exactly what FISD plans to do in
the 2022-2023 school year as it celebrates its students and
staff. That is the #MustangMindset.
