2021-11-03 ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTESAGENDA - REGULAR MEETING OF THE ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 3, 2021, AT 5:30 PM, IN THE TRAINING ROOMS 1 & 2, PEARLAND PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING, 2555 CULLEN BLVD., PEARLAND, TEXAS. I. CALL TO ORDER — 5:30PM II. ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBER ROLL CALL - Present Chad Randall, Cathy Cupples, John Fischer, Mary Hickling, & Larissa Gavin. III. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING MINUTES FROM THE FEBRUARY 3, 2021, MEETING — No discussion, motion by Hickling to adopt, seconded by Fischer, unanimous 5-0. IV. PUBLIC COMMENTS — Heard from Lauren Anderson, new Pearland Animal Shelter Supervisor on her background. V. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION FOR A RECOMMENDATION ON THE FEASIBILITY OF SPAY/NEUTER SERVICES PRIOR TO ADOPTION — Discussion only, talked about contract vets, volunteer vet actions, use of donation fund account, fundraisers, potential hiring of part-time vet, etc. Agreed desire for as many animals as possible to be spay/neutered before leaving the facility. VI. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING A REPORT ON ANIMAL SERVICES CURRENT FOSTER CARE PROGRAM. — Discussion only, shelter is struggling to find fosters, seems to be an industry issue as well. Fischer will work with communications to produce a video educating the public on fosters, this will target end of Jan 2022. VII. We have volunteers most days. Expanding our event volunteers base for a more active community engagement plan is going to be important moving forward. Staffing: We have filled the Animal Services Supervisor position (Lauren Anderson). ACO in background and one shelter attendant position posted Training: Training has resumed. This year We have had 3 staff members test for Animal Control certification. Fischer received his Animal Cruelty Investigator certification. 3 ACO received there Euthanasia Technician certifications. Needs of the shelter: Fosters. We have activated the Foster Module within Chameleon. Currently we have 11 cats in foster. We have to reliable cat fosters. Community engagement may help bring in more fosters. Foster shortages are industry wide currently Social Media: We just surpassed 12.6k followers. Anderson has brought value to our Facebook appearance and sharing that knowledge with the team. Considering using other platforms.
