Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks,
Recreation and Beautification Board held Saturday, January
10, 1986, at the Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty
Drive, Pearland, Texas.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Triebel,
Jr. with the following present: Inez Farmer, Larry Juull,
Bob Pond, James Skipper, Claude Stegall, and Director Barry
Lastik. Barry reported Tootie McComb was unable to attend.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and
approved on the motion of Claude Stegall, seconded by Larry
Juull, and the vote of the Board.
The Director presented the department reports and answered
questions. The majority of efforts were devoted to the the
installation of Christmas decorations and development of
McLean park. Questions about the financial and Community
Center reports were answered. The parks programs are going
well. Water fountains and score booth are under
construction at the ball field in Independence Park. This
same contractor will pour the addition to the play area
slab in Sonny Tobias Park.
Barry invited all board members to attend the KBCBA annual
banquet to be held January 29 at the Gulfcrest Country
Club.
George reported that he had sent a letter to the Mayor and
City Council requesting their continued support of the
Community Center Facility Rental Fee Structure.
Inez Farmer moved to present the January Beautification
Award to Jim Mercer Insurance. The motion was seconded by
Claude Stegall. The motion carried.
In open discussion Barry reported that the lighting pole
cover had been welded in Sony Tobias Park. Planning for
the Easter egg hunt activities will begin very soon.
McLean Park Phase I needs grading, picnic tables, fitness
trail and play ground equipment installed and should be
completed by August 1987. Phase II will be submitted to
Austin when the design for the utilities is complete.
Larry Juull reported that sevaral citizens he talked to had
very good comments about the Hot Meals Program. He also
reported the lighting at the west end of Independence Park
might be a potential hazzard to both motorist and
pedestrians.
Claude Stegall reported that a citizen called him about the
baskett ball goals in Independence Park being misaligned

The next meeting will be February 14, 1987.
Larry Juull moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by
James Skipper. The meeting adjourned.
