1987-11-14 PEARLAND PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTESMINUTES
Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks, Recreation
and Beautification Board held Saturday, November 14, 1987, at the
Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Drive, Pearland Texas.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Triebel Jr.
with the following present: Inez Farmer, Larry Juull, Tootie
McComb, Bob Pond, James Skipper, Claude Stegall and Director
Barry Lastik.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved on
the motion of Larry Juull, seconded by James Skipper, and the vote
of the Board.
The Director presented the department reports and answered
questions. The majority of the efforts were devoted to
finalizing McLean Park Phase I development projects.
Barry will submit a list of major projects he plans to complete
this year at the next meeting. He will also provide a copy of
the Parks Department FY88 goals and objectives.
Bob Pond recommended trash containers be provided at the McLean
Park picnic tables as they appear to be ready for use and the
pickup camper top should be removed from the cross drainage
ditch.
Tootie McComb gave a favorable report on the Seniors trip to
Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
The department continues to provide an employee on site during
weekends events at Independence Park and to make rounds and be on
call when no events are scheduled.
During open discussion Barry presented a plan generated by the
Pearland Historical Society for a gate to be installed at the Old
Settlers Cemetery and an alternative plan from the Parks
Department Supervisor to provide two entrances.
Claude Stegall moved to recommend to City Council that a Iron
Work fence be installed across the full length of the Old
Settlers Cemetery which faces Halik road. This fence is to have
one entrance near the center of the cemetery and the sign above
the gate is to have the words "Old Settlers Cemetery" as
presented. The appropriate roads will be changed. Larry Juull
seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Claude Stegall moved to grant the special request from ABWA to
use the Community Center February 6, 1988. There will be no
rental fee and all other normal deposits will be required. Larry
Juull seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Hardcastle Realty on FM518 across from West Side Cinema Four and
Jim Dandy's convenience store at intersection of FM518, Walnut
and McLean were nominated for the December Beautification Award.
The Christmas lights are to be installed November 21 and the
lighting of the Christmas tree will be December 1 and coincide
with the arrival of Santa Claus at the Kroger parking lot.
Barry invited all members to attend the Health Fair being held
today in the Community Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over eight
hundred people have attended as of 10:30 a.m. This project was
coordinated by Pat Koritta the Community Services Coordinator.
The next meeting will be held December 12, 1987.
Claude Stegall moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by
James Skipper. The meeting adjourned.
