1987-07-11 PEARLAND PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTESJuly 11, 1987 MINUTES Page 1 of 2 Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks,. Recreation and Beautification Board held Saturday, July 11, 1987, at the Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Drive, Pearland, Texas. The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Triebel Jr. with the following present: Inez Farmer, Tootie McComb, Bob Pond, James Skipper, and Director Barry Lastik. Larry Juull and Claude Stegall were absent. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved as ammended (The next meeting will be June 13, 1987.) on the motion of James Skipper, seconded by Inez Farmer, and the vote of the Board. The Director presented the department reports and answered questions. The majority of the efforts were devoted to projects in Independence Park. Responsibility for the maintenance and cleaning of the Parks Department buildings may be changed in the near future. McLean Park Phase I picnic unit and playground foundation construction is underway. The 4th of July celebration fireworks preparations went well in spite of the rain. Several good reports about the Senior Citizen Las Vagas trip were recieved. A citizens request for some recreation programs for the physically impaired is under consideration. Swimming pool maintenance is continuing and attendance is good. The Board reviewed the Departments policy regarding the usage of the Independence Parks pavilion by groups for special functions or events. Topics included were application for rental, initial communications with user, facility configuration and requirements, rental fees, security, sale of beer, facility maintenance and department enployee on site during events. It is the Departments policy to configure the existing facility and equipment to users requirements during the normal working hours of the week prior to the event. Empty plastic lined trash containers will be provided prior to the event. Each day of an event a Department employee will survey and correct problems regarding trash prior to or during the event. The police are notified to make extra patrols through the park when the Board approves the sale of beer. Users are required to clean up after their event. After reviewing the current pavilion usage policy and fee structure the Board has found them to be more than adequate to support existing operations and feels that it is in the best interest of the City to continue these policies. During open discussion Barry reported the 1988 budget preparations are underway. The long range planning capital equipment request have initially been cut, including July 11, 1987 MINUTES Page 2 of 2 swimming pool resurfacing and any McLean Park development. A Council work shop meeting considering the Parks Department budget will be held Wednesday 15th at City Hall. No nominations for Beautification Awards were submitted. The next meeting will be August 8, 1987. Tootie McComb moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Inez Farmer. The meeting adjourned.
