APPLICATION NO. 17, CITY OF PEARLAND, AGENT, FOR AN AMENDMENT TO
THE LAND USE AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE FROM CLASSIFICATION
GB, GENERAL BUSINESS, TO OP, OFFICE AND PROFESSIONAL, ON LOTS 29,
30, 31, AND 32, BLOCK 8, PEARLAND TOWNSITE (2234, 2236, 2238, AND
2240 N. GALVESTON)
The Commission discussed spot zoning and compatible zoning.
It was moved by Helen Beckman, seconded by Clyde Starns, that
Application No. 17 be approved changing the zoning classification
from General Business to Office and Professional.
In discussion, the Commission considered the zoning history of
this area. It was determined that the property was originally
zoned general business and in 1980 the zoning ordinance was
amended by Ordinance No. 246 -62 to reflect this area as Office
and Professional.
Ernesto Buenrostro, Building Official, explained that when the
City -wide zoning ordinance was revised in March of 1986, this
area was inadvertently shown as General Business instead of
Office and Professional on the new City zoning map. This appli-
cation made by the City at the request of the owner is to correct
that oversight.
The Commission discussed previous workshops and public hearings
held at the time of the revision of the zoning ordinance, re-
strictions of Multi - family, Office and Professional, and General
Business zoning districts and provisions of a specific use per-
mit.
Motion passed 5 to 2, with Al Lentz and Leroy Savoie voting
against.
