1988-01-09 PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD MINUTESMINUTES
Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks, Recreation
and Beautification Board held Saturday, January 9L 1988, at the
Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Drive, Pearland Texas.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Triebel Jr.
with the following present: Inez Farmer, Larry Juull, Tootie
McComb, Bob Pond, James Skipper, Claude Stegall and Director
Barry Lastik.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved on
the motion of Inez Farmer, seconded by Larry Juull, and the vote
of the Board.
The Director presented the department reports and answered
questions. The majority of the efforts were devoted to
Christmas decorations, construction at the shop facility and
ground maintenance at McLean Park. A sign is to be installed at
Independence Park stating the hours of operation. This should
help keep cars from being left in the park overnight. A
irrigation system has been installed at the Softball field in
Independence Park. Pearland High School has requested the use of
the facility again this year.
Everyone agreed that the Health Fair was a great success. This
project was coordinated by Pat Koritta the Community Services
Coordinator.
Trash containers were installed at the McLean Park picnic tables
and the pickup camper top was removed from the cross drainage
ditch.
George introduced Al Lentz, Jim Sudela and Billy Wolff the City
Council Position Number 5 Candidates. They each gave a brief
introduction then answered questions from the board pertaining to
Parks, Recreation and Beautification.
Barry extended an invitation to the Keep Brazoria County
Beautiful Association annual banquet. The board requested
information about the agenda this year.
During open discussion George indicated two items will be on the
agenda at the next City Council meeting. First the resurfacing
of the Pool in Independence Park and second the purchase of play
ground equipment to be installed on City easement property near
Parkview subdivision.
Barry provided a copy of the Parks Department FY88 goals and
objectives. He will submit a list of major projects he plans to
complete this year at the next meeting. Some thought is being
given to recreation items for McLean Park such as a dirt track
for model cars.
Hardcastle Realty on FM518 across from West Side Cinema Four and
Jim Dandy's convenience store at intersection of FM518, Walnut
and McLean were nominated for a Beautification Award.
The next meeting will be held February 13, 1988.
Claude Stegall moved to adiourn. The motion was seconded by
Larry Juull. The meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Bob Pond, Secretary
