1988-03-12 PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD MINUTESMINUTES Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks, Recreation and Beautification Board held Saturday, March 12, 1988, at the Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Drive, Pearland Texas. The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Triebel Jr. with the following present: Inez Farmer, Larry Juull, Tootie McComb, Bob Pond, James Skipper, Claude Stegall and Director Barry Lastik. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved on the motion of Larry Juull, seconded by Claude Stegall, and the vote of the Board. During citizen participation Sharon Gouger spoke to the Board concerning Community Center rental fees and deposits. During old business Barry reported the swimming pool resurfacing project will be taken under consideration by the City Council at the next meeting. Our recommendation will be to take the only approved bid. The donation of the Gazebo by the Green Tee Homeowners Association is still under consideration. The Director presented the department reports and answered questions. The majority of the efforts were devoted to planting trees, preparing the ball field for seasonal play and converting the swimming pool to liquid chlorination. A motion by Tootie McComb, seconded by Larry Juull, requiring any trees that are removed from the parks be replaced per the appropriate plan. The motion carried. Historical markers will be installed for the Old Settlers Cemetery. April 8th and 9th the Parks department will sponsor a 50's and 60's dance at the Community Center. The metal poles donated to the Parks Department will cost about $900 each to install. We will have to delay the installation until next year. During open discussion Barry reported that Pat Koritta has given her resignation. The Board ask that Barry tell her that her efforts were appreciated. James Medearis the owner of Jim Dandy's convenience store at intersection of FM518, Walnut and McLean was presented a Beautification Award. The next meeting will be held April 2, 1988. The meeting will be from 8:30 to 9:30 and adjourn to Independence Park for the annual Easter Egg Hunt which starts at 10:00. Communications equipment and signs will be available. The pool will open April 30. Tootie McComb reported that holes have developed at some of the picnic tables in Independence Park. Wood Creek Civic Club was nomination for a Beautifi ation Award for continued efforts in maintaining the entrance ar4d esplanade in their subdivision. The Board considered two special request at this meeting. The first request to waver the fees for the pavilion on June 5, 1988 by the First United Methodist Church. Larry Juull made a motion that the Board adopt a rule stating that deserving organizations who fit the required criteria be allowed to use each Parks Department facility only once per year. The motion died for lack of a second. Tootie McComb moved to table the first request and proceed to the second request. James Skipper seconded and the motion carried. A motion by James Skipper and seconded by Inez Farmer to grant the special request by the Rosette Chapter to use the pavilion at the reduced rate on April 15-16, 1988. All other rules and regulations apply. The motion carried. Bob Pond moved to deny the special request by the First United Methodist Church to waive the fees for the use of the pavilion on June 5, 1988. The motion was seconded by Inez Farmer. The motion carried with five ayes and one no. Larry Juull moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Claude Stegall. The meeting adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Bob Pond, Secretary
