Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks, Recreation
and Beautification•Bpard held Saturday, May 14, 1988, at the
Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Drive, Pearland Texas.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Triebel Jr.
with the following present: Inez Farmer, Larry Juull, Tootie
McComb, Bob Pond, Claude Stegall, Billy Wolff and Director Barry
Lastik. James Skipper was absent.
George Triebel presented Larry'Amiot, John Pellettieri and Russ
Johnson, officers of the Wood Creek subdivision civic association
with a beautification award.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved on
the motion of Larry Juull, seconded by Inez Farmer, and the vote
of the Board.
During old business Barry reported the swimming pool resurfacing
was completed and opened on schedule. The Summer Play Ground
Program was canceled this year. A new program will be designed
for next year.
The Director presented the department reports and answered
questions. The majority of the efforts were devoted to
preparing the pool for opening. The 50's and 60's dance was not
successful.
During open discussion Barry called for a budget workshop meeting
to be held at 9:00 am on May 21, 1988 in the community center.
Billy Wolff suggested that the Board consider requesting an
additional historical marker to be installed at the Old Settlers
Cemetery and water service be installed at the Independence Park
pavilion prior to May 28, 1988. A brief discussion about the
impact the new High School might have on Independence Park
followed. Concerns were expressed about a new road and overhead
amateur radio antennas in Independence Park considering the State
grant requirements'pertaining to these items.
Inez- Farmer announced that KBCBA will hold the annual spring
clean up contest acjain the is year.
Bob Pond agreed to meet with Twin Creek subdivision residgnts
pertaining to :usage and future of the neighborhood park in their
subdivision.

The next meeting will be held June 4, 1988.
Larry Juull moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Claude
Stegall. The meeting adjourned.
